I for one will be on a class action if it comes about. There answer is a spiff program one of two they are test marketing. Only one will give us a chance to make back a portion of what they have take. The other you might as well have no program. Almost guarantee it will be the latter of the two. This way they can say they gave us 2 options but they know damn right well which one we're going with from the get go. That will be the one they rarely have to pay out on. This Marvin guy could give a rat's a– about the employees of Lowe's the writing is on the wall it is a apparent it is about his 200 million severance package when he leaves Lowe's. There is no growth left in lowes that is why they're trying to eke out every penny they can from the customers and take away from the employees buying back stocks to make stocks rise. All smoke and mirrors.

I had an interview to for a department manager position. Before the interview Officially start I was ask “how would you feel if your current department went to commission in 3 months?” I am currently an appliance specialist. I found it odd. Has anyone heard of this?

I've been with Lowe's for 16 years selling appliances, giving them my heart & soul and making them a lot of money(I also made a very good income). It was upsetting when our commissions were taken away at least they gave us something, a 50% allowance. I became a part timer 3 years ago, at that time I lost $5.00 of my hourly pay. Now with the allowance going away, I can't afford to work for them anymore and also keep some part time insurance. Social security doesn't give me enough to cover today's high cost of living.

What's sad is, what they will have to pay out if there is a class action will probably wind up being way less than the dollar amount they have been paying in allowances. And like all class action suits, the lawyers make bank and the employees a few bucks!

I want to see this class action lawsuit happen! I don't work at Lowes, but my husband has been there for almost 20 years. He worked his tail end off making commissions. This is a serious pay cut which affects more than just the single employee, it affects whole families! Please if you have the email or letter or whatever it was with the promise the "allowance" would stick, upload it and make it public! This is affecting the most hardworking and loyal employees. (commissions were earned by how many sales one made, not by lazy people standing behind a desk ignoring customers.)

just to let everyone know it is in writing. I have the letter on official lowes letterhead from rick Damron stating just just that

We were told this was permanent as long as we were paid hourly.

— unless you have it in writing or on video, verbal contracts are worth as much as the paper they are written on.

Does anyone think this could lead to a class action lawsuit? We were told this was permanent as long as we were paid hourly.

I read these same jealous and envious posts about 7.5 years ago. I, for one, feel like I am finally free to go elsewhere and move on from retail life. There are many jobs out there that pay more and are more rewarding outside of retail. For the ones that are jealous and aim for mediocrity.... Feel free to work as many nights, weekends, and holidays as you like just as long as someone else doesn’t make more than you. Everyone knows that all employees should always make the same pay no matter what your skill levels are. Remember, Aim High.

Spiffs are not fair and equal. Might as well have a spiff drinking fountain and a non spiff drinking fountain. About time they did away with this unfair outdated practice.

Way back when I first started, we used to get department bonuses if we performed well. Some of us worked our tails off to get results and the spiffs and commissions were a reward from the Vendors. Then the monthly bonuses went away...a pay cut. Then Lowe's decided to take away the spiffs and commissions and I took a huge hit but decided to stay because they "Promised" us that we would get the compensation as long as we stayed with the company and did not take a salaried position, but still another pay cut. Some of us took on Department Manager positions to help ease that pay cut. Then they eliminated the Department Manager position...another pay cut. Now, they are taking away what was promised to us. I stayed because I love what I do and the difference I could make, but with this latest cut, I am now making less than I did 14 years ago. It baffles me how a Fortune 50 company can treat the people that got them there so poorly. I don't know who is actually making these decisions, but it's clear that they don't keep their promises and don't care about me. I know the decisions are all made based on "the bottom line", but the bottom line is this... I used to think that Lowe's was a great place to work and I still love what I do, but I can't afford to keep going backward and Lowe's is going to lose a lot of good people that have helped them get to where they are.

Seems fair. I stopped getting my allowance when I was a kid. If we all can not get a allowance then no one should . Seems this is one reason for so many layoffs. Good riddance spiffs.

just got the call from my sm at home on my day off to let me know that the allowance would completely end 2/1/2020. I can remember the e-mail from niblock telling all of us that we would always get this allowance until we stop working at lowes or become a manager.I know that lowes lost a class action suit about 14 years ago over their chinese overtime I believe it is time for another. They don't care about their long term employees why sould we care about lowes

thanks to the person who explained what spiffs were. have always heard the word used on social media. this is their next way to do layoffs....legally...and it will be targeted toward the highest earners. the one thing and i mean ONE thing that continues to amaze me is how cunning they have been to strip even pennys from associates — like the "now you get TWO raises a year!!! — but for anyone that has a brain and did the math the company wins as you not only defer income for 6 months but when working with percentages you cant divide them in half and still multiple to equal the same as if you took the whole and multipled. (two 1.5% raises dont equal one 3% raise is what im trying to say).

so this layoff will be targeted toward higher income earners and you will lay yourself off by quitting. kudos marvin.....you found that scab you could pick to then get these higher earners to finish themselves off and quit. i can just hear it now — emperor palpatine (shaw and ackman) "you have done well lord vader" (marvin). seriously marvin ......turn back from the dark side before you completely lose your soul.

More nails on the coffin! This allowance has been a great incentive for many of us to go the extra step in excellent customer service. We (at least, I) respected the company’s decision to reward us after they took away our hard-earned commissions (though some people make it sound like it was just free money waiting on the desk). Over the years I’ve earned the store a lot of repeat customers and referrals, and I’ve earned myself great respect from my customers and coworkers. Hard to say what will happen now, but I guess it’s time to take my experience elsewhere. I’ve always thought that this would happen one day, and I’m not really shocked. One thing I know for sure is that the company will loose a lot of highly experienced workers (most with 9+ years of experience).
Cut, cut, cut. What’s left now?

For those that don’t know, a spiff allowance was a stipend for those of us that were once on commission, in 2012 they ended the program. They took our 2011 commission and cut it in half and divided that among our paychecks. For example. I made $38,000 in 2011 in spiffs, they gave me $19,000 divide that up is $730 per paycheck extra as an allowance. We were told that we would get that until we go salary, corporate or quit.

Why should you get a spiff I was going to buy it anyways. Most lowes employees are useless and could be replaced with a drone.

Store managers did have a late call after staff meeting yesterday. May have something to do with it. I hope it’s true, it’s give me one more reason to leave and take my 401k, penalties and all.

I lost my stipend yesterday, by my SM giving me a heads up for Tuesday when it officially happens.
So Tuesday everyone loses stipened, and then Marvin will sit back in his 4k chair looking to see who quits over this, saving him severance or unemployment.
Then, Carvin will decide from that, on how many MORE cuts he will have to make which will def be specialists. He has it in his thick skull already that any slob CSA off the street can do what specialists do for much less pay. Prob is, hes wrong.
Marvin and all his hired empty suits are collectivists. They despise individualism, and refuse to see some people are more talented than others, work harder, and can do things better than others and deserve more pay for their higher output of work and sales.

Marvin will get whats coming to him. He will be left with a crew of employees that are extremely inept, socially washed up, and people that dont give af. He ahs that already in most CSA's and PT'ers but refuses to accept that fact.

Anyway, I hope Marvin gets EXACTLY what hes striving for.

I just bought a door in mooresville IN. Store was dirty and stock was everywhere but where it belonged. Employees were super nice and helpful so I bought the door. I hope Lowe’s makes it for the sake of all the employees. Of course my lifetime warranty is probably c-ap.
