Thread regarding Williams Cos. layoffs

Any ideas what will be hit the hardest?

I think we know by now that the number we're looking at for the next round of Williams layoffs is 1,000 people - but what about other info? When will it happen, what will be hit the most, stuff like that?

It's kind of unnerving to know layoffs are coming but have so little concrete info on it...

Ain’t that the truth! Who is Dunn?

sounds like around 250 or so have already accepted the package. I, as a mid-to-young guy hate to see a lot of knowledge walk outside the door all at once. Gonna be a rough few years with everyone, at least in my team, doing the work of 3 people since we've already been doing the work of 1-2 people with Dunn's "no headcount" stance since 2018.

NE is heavy and much is redundant. They’ve built their own empires.

It makes sense to have a a few local project managers and project engineers if there are enough projects to support them. Overflow should be handled by regional, not Tulsa. If a high level of expertise is required, possibly out of Tulsa. The point is to maintain as much continuity as possible. It doesn’t take a lot of planning and thinking to do this. There should be never a large dumping or hiring of employees, if it is managed and planned correctly. This overhiring and overfiring creates a lot more problems with hidden costs. I can ensure it is not a cost effective way of running their business, not to mention the poor effect on moral.

If it is anything like 2016 definitely agree with operations being top heavy with E&C. Never understood why every operations group wanted their own empire and E&C group, instead of using a regional group out of Pittsburgh. Nothing really makes sense with this company, except for constant reorganization and power plays between groups with tons of innocent victims that caught on the cross fire.

Operations in the NE is really heavy. That needs to be addressed as well.

E&C usually gets hit the hardest.
They beef up for projects and when the projects are over they dump. Been like that forever, a lot worse at
Other companies. A lot of it is poor planning, some of it is real.

Usually the offices get hit harder than field employees like operations. I would say if someone else in the office does the same job as you or you know someone who knows how to do your job and gets paid less you should be nervous. Engineering, EHS, project managers, office administrators. Seems like when these types get laid off its not the young and inexperianced that go, its the senior guys that get paid more that go. This is all speculation of course, they may or may not do things different than last time.

We do not know that it is 1000 people, severance costs might include a closing of an office and when a few V.P. get served they might have a big cost. Once all those funds are used we then get a dollar per head number. Could be 250, 500, 1000 who knows, 1000 seems like worst case.
