Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Ok, sh!t's gettin' real. . . . . .

I just talked with an old friend of mine at one of the two WMs in my town; he had been an Assistant for years before being terrorized by the MM and, basically, forced to step down to a Dept. Mgr. He's been faithfully and excellently functioning in that roie for several years, claims he actually prefers that level over salaried, as it's less stressful.....but now:

Apparently Walmart is changing the dept. manager position. Forgive me if it's been gone over here and I missed it. But it's where now my friend and his peers will have to re apply for the very jobs they've already been doing.. He's ready to bail right now. Getting on Indeed and Monster and getting his resume and affairs in order. This is one of the truly coolest, kindest, smartest and hardest working people you could ever want to meet—but he has met his breaking point.

It's a miserable thing how this 'company' is tearing down the very people who built them up

Personnel and training had to reapply too. Why do you think a third of them left the company because they were smart and saw the writing on the wall. The ones that got people lead will be screwed too. Get out now!

I knew about all these new programs a year ago. That was the very same reason I got out! There was no way, I was going to except the changes of not having a department, not having my managers title and being on a team, going around the entire store taking up the slack. Having the 2% raise every year. On top of that working mornings, evenings, and rotating weekends. - 18 year former employee.

FYI all of the policies are on the wire. You could have found out for yourself it was true or not and then do something about it if true. Time to take ownership of yourself. No one on the home office even just knows all the policies, the company is too too big for that - they know the policies in the area that they work in.

I'm sorry but the days of no union is over for those employees. As a former associate I heard all the new BS that was going to happen and I got out. There is no more caring for their associate.

After years of great evaluation reviews and good relationships with my DM, I suddenly found myself fighting a losing battle in the form of a negative evaluation coupled with coachings for really lame nit picking things. Confirmed through a connection in HO that the policy I supposedly violated on my last coaching didn't exist. It was clearly a case of wanting to get rid of an older long-term associate (AKA age discrimination). I didn't wait to be displaced or terminated. I found another job and quit. Of course, that is exactly what they wanted me to do, but that is OK. I am free of them and their toxic BS.

I know of another former associate who was in a similar situation who just went to lunch and didn't come back. While not a terribly professional act on his part, I certainly understand the sentiment and even feel a little bit jealous of his nerve.

I highly encourage those who live in fear to find a real job and get the hell out of the toxic environment this company has become. It's just not worth it anymore.
