Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Corporate spokesperson tells it incorrectly.

With these layoffs, CNN quotes a company spokesperson as saying that the affected ones will be given an opportunity to move into positions open in the store. How is that when they are walked out with no notice????

The date and timing have to do with the end of fiscal quarter. All those employees and holdings come off the books for financial reporting. Also, take into account not all of those employees will even want to reapply and those that do are just filing positions that most of the stores would’ve been filing with external hires anyway.so it also saves payroll figures for the new quarter. The decision it self is good business, the problem is always in how it’s executed. In our store all of those affected were part time and are all going to other part time positions in the store so they essentially just got paid time off. Unfortunately it’s not going to work like that at most stores.

Also made all those laid-off Assemblers and FSAs ineligible to receive any quarterly bonuses that may have been headed their way. Pittance on the individual level but a goodly sum multiplied by thousands. Marvin Ellison: Liar and Thief.

Our Assembler was told he couldn't reapply until August 7 because July 31, the layoff date, was the end of the quarter. Seems odd that this so conveniently fell at that juncture, when a week or two's advance notice would've allowed affected employees to apply to be transitioned, rather than rehired. Especially odd since our HR person knew almost half a year in advance, & transitioned into a Dept Mgr position (in a field where they had absolutely NO experience at all) two months ahead of the actual HR elimination date.

CNN is FAKE news. They are the drama queens of the news industry. They can turn anything good into something bad. Allowing corporate shills to lie on camera is bad journalism. They didn't do their due justice and call them out. They took what Lowe's said at face value.

They can reapply On the 20th after their severance is paid out. With the new hire system that could take a month. Sorry

I emailed the Wall Street Journal reporter and provided the facts as they were explained to me.

If you google Lowe’s lay-off and look for news, you will find many news articles saying, Associates who were in these positions will be given transition pay and have the opportunity to apply for open roles at Lowe’s," the company said in a statement.

We were told that those laid off cannot apply until next Tuesday.

I don't know why that date, but that came from someone effected. We will have to wait to see if this is correct.

I’d take everything that CNN says with a grain of salt. Is anyone else out there attributing this same quote to our company spokesperson? If there is, I haven’t seen it.

Why not email the reporter and provide correct information on what Lowe’s is doing. I would especially email any reporter that works for a news organization in Lowe’s back yard. If enough of us did this and we emailed every reporter it would counteract the PR fluff being reported as news.
