Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Why is GM IT moving jobs to Ireland?

And cutting down people in Warren. GM has left IT in Randy’s hand and he is taking IT out of Detroit piece by piece. Ireland, why? Contrary to this Ford has its IT centrally and strategically in Dearborn for ever. What do we get in Ireland that we don’t have in Warren. Is it lower wage GM is after, that would be short-sightedness for sure.

GM is self insured... Blue Cross and Aetna just manage the plans.

There is a huge saving overseas.

they are not outsourcing IT to Ireland, that location has been decreasing since we sold Opel. 90% of GM networks are in north America, and those guys no nothing about IT whats so ever, they can't even understand sub-netting.

No health care expenses for employees in Ireland.

Who the hell knows what execs think, or if they so at all. We have no business in Europe but have an Ireland IT office. We have business in Korea but closed that office.

Cost of living isnt cheap in Ireland so I doubt there's a labor savings.

Because IT surfs the internet all day shoe shopping. Ask Barra and her CFO both shoe shoppers all day long.

Why outsource IT to Ireland?

GM sold off its European operations, so the office isn't close to a GM market, and while they can hire people in Ireland cheaper than Americans, they'll really save big bucks if they did IT in Bangalore instead.

Randy would rather have company-paid business trips (vacations) to Ireland than Detroit.

They should offshore the executive ranks. Imagine the savings.

I hear the Indian counterparts will work for peanuts. Might even buy an overseas GM CEO recruit for less than $20/hr at the going rates.

Unbelievable, offshoring piece by piece. So disappointed in GM.
