Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Titles

Remember this folks. Titles at SF don't mean jack. Some of the "leadership" got there by who you know. Just remember manager or leader is a title only. They wouldn't be jack if it wasn't for the people who make it happen. They have completely lost their mind in this regard. I left years ago and it simply blows my mind how they have disrespected such a noble occupation.

The reason leadership is difficult is because they have to sell something they don't believe in. Believe me when the real reputation of SF is being spoken of behind closed doors.

Unfortunately, this is why the re-org cannot work. We still have the same terrible, know-nothing managers in ET. For the most part, we are talking about managers who simply could not find gainful employment at any other company, as State Farm has robbed them of whatever technical skills they might have once had (assuming they had any to begin with).

And the thing is, most of them (especially the ones living in the Bloomington/Normal bubble) have no idea how unemployable they are at most companies with modern IT shops.

So when the PR goons come back into this forum to tell us we're all heading in the right direction, just point toward the front-line managers and up in ET and shake your head.

My manager in ET is a total control freak and micromanager. I never see them cause they are always in meetings and don’t have time for the team. Director is never around and useless, seriously we wouldn’t miss them if they left at all. But wow if you come in 15 min late cause of kids bus is behind you get questioned even though you planned to make the time up anyway, yet almost everyday they leave early. I feel like an friggen hourly employee. Our leadership is a bunch of scared office assistants trying to please their bosses by being busy. Sickening there is so much waste of company money at SF.

Just remember a quarterback isn't worth a dime without his offensive line. SF quarterbacks get sacked every down because: 1. They don't have a line 2. Their game plan s—s! The GM is too busy in his booth getting drunk and playing politics. Meanwhile the fans get screwed.

I agree with you. And unfortunately, what that means is that over time, the leadership roles at state farm will slowly but surely self-populate with sociopaths, narcissists, and others who feel no shame or remorse about having to speak out of both sides of their mouths.

The damage that's being done to this company now will last for generations.

Being in any leadership role today at SF has to be tough I believe. Front-line managers have tons of pressure on them to meet performance goals, knowing this is an impossible task, given the amount of work expected. They have to be cheer leaders and used car salesmen, knowing all the while they are insulting their team members intelligence, in demanding the impossible from them.

This would be an immense pressure. And if they have a good moral compass, this can be seen as a weakness or not being loyal to the company. I know I wouldn’t want to be a TM in today’s world. Way too much pressure....if you are a decent person.
