Thread regarding Sears layoffs

They are lying out their teeth about severance pay

They announced they were going acknowledge all severance to what it was before they declared bankruptcy last October which was 1 week for every year worked?....now it is we will tell you two weeks before your store is closed what you get, go ahead and call HR if you don't believe me

Everyone prior to October got one week for every year worked they're giving 4 weeks max now, I'm sure they have the paper work figured out to where it's legal but still they are liars when they tell the media it will be the same as it was before October bankruptcy

I was laid off last June of 2018 and ended up with 16 wks of severance instead of 20 (worked there for 24 years). The last couple of years I knew it was a gamble but I stayed because I was close to retirement. In my 24 years, Sears has engineered layoffs almost every year, it was constant. When it finally came it was a relief. I was just tired of all the uncertainty. For those of you much younger, you really need to get out of there while the job market is strong. I know it's tough to leave a company especially if you have worked there for 5 or more years but do yourself a favor and at least start looking around. Don't wait for Eddie's guillotine to lop off your head with little to no safety net.

First time hearing this. Was it in written, or someone said it? And if some authority actually said it, can it be considered as legally binding statement?

I doubt it but when our state was the first to put a stop to protection plan sales last October after they filed for bankruptcy they made everyone sign something that they wouldn't tell anyone specifically saying not to pebble about it...what a joke of a company when literally two days before that they handed out printed brochures coaching us how to sell protection plans while in bankruptcy, you can't make this stuff up

Did anyone sign documents stating they would get severance or was it word-by-mouth? I would have made them sign it to keep their word. If they didn't near the end of the closing you may have a legal case against them.
