Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Are any stores going to be closing soon?

Not that I would like for that to happen, but this seems to be something that I find very probable. There are a lot of layoffs but I haven’t heard that stores are closing. If the closures actually occur, what stores are first in line for closure at this point?

Contraction can be a good thing for a company. It thins out the herd by getting rid of unprofitable stores, while at the same time allows employees to transfer to other locations.

Receiving, deliveries, and entire back end will be 3rd party by end of 4th quarter.
Sorry, but its coming. I bet your head XPO guy has already been walking around introducing himself
and saying call him for any delivery problems. His segway into the delivery roles.

I can verify that my store does this. I stopped by a Lowe’s on the way to work today. I bought 8 gallons of Duramax 75555 to return at my store. Of the 8 gallons, 6 were already promised to customers. The store I bought them from had 40 in stock, we had none.

To the store manager who is wiling to share - how long does receiving have before they disect us? And how can it go 3rd party? Almost all of us are 20+ years in but do not yet have enough to retire. Any information would be most helpful. We are in a very rural area with not much opportunity to go elsewhere. Thank you for any information.

i hope they all close, and lowes gets what it deserves for blowing the shareholders cox!

the prob today in business BESIDES being in bed with gov, is that a corp has THREE parts - its not just shareholdewrs that make a company run and money! There are shareholders, management, and employees! All three want the company to do well yet you get bad execs who only favor one of the 3, the shareholders! So they abuse managers and employees. They sacrifice the other components for one for short term gains, but they are aertificial because whenever u sacrifice, someone is collecting! Thats the cry of the lepers bell!

These sacrifices have causality, and in time, they come to roost and will have dire effects. Our current CEO is coking books, and lying to appease stocks and shareholders. But it wont last.

They are destroying the company purposely for personal gains, and the gov stands by idly (prob getting kick backs to do so) and allows it all. Not just with Lowe;s, but just look at the last 10 years aone with Enron, car companies, financials, etc ... chit show.

If CEO's are in bed with corrupt gov politicians, who is to stop them? No one.

Yes! I am store manager, and along w/ the ASM who leaked McFarlands racist slurs, many managers are now leaking this corrupt corporate scheme.
If you are a store within 10 miles from any other lowes, one of you is gone. How they decide is yet TBD (tax breaks, contract, etc)

There will also be more secret undisclosed hiring freezes where Full Timers will never get a promotion, transfer, or even interviews. Right now, we at the store level have been told to interview, and post jobs, but with NO CHANCE of that person even being considered, or ANYONE being hired for the position. What sense that makes only our CEO and execs know. Its a waste of our already diminished resources and we have no time nor staff to be doing mock interviews.

Thats just one level of inefficiency but at every level of operations they abound thanks to corporate.

So expect more cuts, more store closures, more 3rd party (deliveries, RTM, and entire back end are going 3rd party very soon) and then its managerial cuts.

They are already bracing us for ASM cuts to at most 3 per store but the fewer the better (dept supers will do their jobs with no raise), and even talks of cutting many store managers and making SM's "district". Meaning, I will cover 3 or more stores in my district (if I stay). So I may be in store one for 2 days per week, then store 2 for 2 days, store 3 for 1 day, then next week alternate.

All these cuts come without a raise, but a lot more work on those who stay.

When employees have to buy from other locations and return to accommodate customers should be praised for their efforts!! Again, the company falls short on customer service.

Most of the closings will be in the north. These areas have high location density, and several new Menard’s have opened. Menards is expanding and Lowe’s is contracting under Ellison.

Ohio has several stores on the closing list. The closings will be announced in December.

My store is probably on that list.

We have next to nothing on the shelves and nothing in top stock. We've had to ICB in paint from nearby stores to meet demand due to the rebate promo. When other stores won't let us ICB we have associates that will go to that store, buy it, and return it to our store.

My store is also 8, 9, and 11 miles away from the three closest Lowe's stores.

One of the online retail magazines estimated as many as 20 Lowe's locations on the block for the upcoming year.

Obviously the 12 Marvin mentioned being on a watchlist when they announced the last closings. (He never mentioned by name or number) I would guess they are being reevaluated for closure.
