Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Former FSA Here. Lots to Share.

I've worked at Lowe's since before the Facilities Services Associate position even existed. Experienced many changes at Lowe's since Niblock took over: eliminating SPIFs (commissions), remember getting quirky little bonuses like $200.00 if we came in with a good inventory, giving away SUVs, quarterly safety bonuses, quarterly sales/service bonuses.

I remember the hooky Lowe's cheer; wonder if any store does that any more? Corny and I hated it but
everybody suffered through it.

I remember my Store Manager asking me if I'd like a job taking care of the store we had built together? He gave me a brief rundown of the new "FSA" position and he said I'd be perfect for it. Sold. Liked the challenge(s).

I remember the many foolish things that Corporate sprang on us like the little stickers that we pasted in the corners of the restroom mirrors that read "We know your plumbing inside and out." I kid you not folks, thousands of those little stickers went up in every restroom all over North America. Two hours later every Store Manager asked us to peel them off.

I remember getting hauled into my ASM's office to get a butt-chewin for implying on Connections (a chat-room dedicated to FSAs to exchange helpful ideas) that Corporate was dropping the ball with their new floor polishing program.

I remember hundreds of stores being closed and one near-by when Associates had less notice than the contractor hired to take the sign down. Marvelous Marvin's not the only Lowe's executive cold enough to lay-off thousands without any notice.

Memories and frustrations to currently witness the store that I built swirl the bowl.

It's all a giant wave of rollbacks. Today is labor day, but what benefits do we still enjoy that organizing and unions have us? Most floor associates and specialists get two consecutive days off just once a month. That robs me of what little free time I have leftover.

What do you expect though? Open door policies are to unions what a Dixie cup of water is to a fire hose. We're foolish for thinking we could keep the benefits without the effort of organizing and keeping companies like this in check

Your position was useless. Once they out sourced all the electrical and rack building you should have been smart. You were nothing more than a janitor in the end.
