Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Waxing poetic: Why castoffs can’t let go

I look on social media and see ex employees missing the NY office, talking about what once was in ES, AG, EA, blah blah blah.

I hate to say it but my last 3 years at mattel were hell. Massive stress, constant internal questioning of my skills, poor direction and never knowing if tomorrow was my last day. it’s been 6 months and my hair is thicker, my nails aren’t brittle and my stress is non-existent. Best thing ever is moving on. I came here after a fellow ex employee told me about it and I understand the rage. I wish you all the best. Try to move on, you’ll add years to your life.

Who moved on that has you so fired up? Things are status quo in my division. Nobody comes to work anymore but nobody’s leaving either.

I worked at the FP office in EA and always really enjoyed it, great people, low stress, great work life balance. EA and WNY offer a nice mix of urban and rural amenities, Buffalo is a great little city and in the surrounding towns there was plenty of outdoor recreation and parks. Plus it has a pretty affordable cost of living. Among the FP employees existed a genuine sense of comradery, more so than at any other job I've worked. Too bad Mattel couldn't seem to get their sh*t together, many good folks were laid off or left for greener pastures. Morale sank and people seemed to stop caring, almost as if their jobs were futile, towards the end it felt like people were just going through the motions. It's been several years since I left, I wonder if things have improved under new leadership.

OP- I can’t believe you said your hair and nails grew. Me too. That tells me how badly my body stressed over the backstabbing co-workers and insults to my intelligence not to mention the daily pink slip discussions at the “water cooler” that are endless!!! It takes a while to recover and not remain in fight mode- but recovery is possible- that’s the great news. And yes, even the favored are leaving. That’s so telling, but of what idk.

Been gone almost 9 months now and I thank God everyday for being laid off.
The last few years I was working at Mattel were horrible! I don't miss it a bit.
Stayed in the Toy industry and found a great company that actually takes care of their employees and has an HR group that puts the employees first and not the Big Wigs scattered agendas.
Happy to be out of the hell that is Mattel.

You can be a content ex-Mattel employee and still visit this site just to keep on top of the latest goings on at Mattel. In fact, I'd say this site is even more valuable once you leave since you become out of the loop. Many exMattelers still work in the toy industry, and right now there isn't a bigger nail biter than the question of if and when Mattel files chapter 11 or how they manage to turn the ship around and avoid it. Surely the shock waves of Mattel's demise could have long reverberating consequences, right now everyone's just munching popcorn and waiting to see how the story ends. 🍿

I think we're feeling the bone and the heart go now. The fat was easy to trim. The saggy skin afterwards a must-do, the muscle was painful but you thought it could be rebuilt. But the bone and the heart? Our leaders took the 'you're all replaceable' attitude a little too long. The place feels seriously de-stabilized. Where is you 'organ rejection' theory now RD?

Is it just me or does it seem like folks are leaving the company in greater numbers than before? Is this the case, or maybe it's just people I happen to work with.
