TM happiness and excellence

The value of team member happiness and excellence went out the door long ago. Team members are literally told to not question how things were done by store leadership, which was a change from when I started there. Years ago, we were encouraged to give feedback and ideas on how to get things done better and more efficiently, now it's OTS, feed the beast and don't ask why.

In my position as lower management I thought my job was to support the team members I supervised but I was literally told by store leadership that “isn’t not my job”.

If the company wants to retain talent upper management really has to treat TMs as assets (occasional 'appreciations' is not the way to do this). My team leader did not have a passion for the job, sadly this was clear to the team and many beneath him felt he was not doing what he could to help the team develop and grow creating a sense of apathy on the team.

Oh well, the dream died...

The great almighty dollar is the only thing important to leadership. Even stocking product from one team in another dept. regardless of cross contamination. Or even processing food in other depts. Of only the dept. of Agriculture would make a surprise visit these next two weeks.

Food safety and logs. Your happiness doesn't matter.

I like my job but I agree that TM happiness is becoming less and less of a focus the last 5 years. I wouldn't be surprised if they removed it from the core values soon.

That being said I find that most TMs who are unhappy @ Whole Foods will be unhappy at any other job as well. Some people are just at w.f. until they find a job they went to college for and that can be tedious if you have no passion for working in a grocery store but I'd say most people who work at the store level are life time retail workers. They will b–ch and moan about whole foods until they leave and work for Trader Joe's and then they will b–ch and moan about T.J.'s.

Team member happiness is out the window we have to work in other teams for hours with no labor transfer or labor increase in other teams while we get held accountable for our team when the department looks empty the astl’s and store team leader always hold us accountable since we can’t catch up due to us working in other teams since all their people are upstairs talking or in the back talking and store leadership is ok with it they just look out the window like creeps and say you didn’t help customers but by the way that is empty and this is empty why can’t you fill it?

Hard to have a passion for the job when you have store leadership like that. And of course there will be apathy when the company is all about metrics and scorecards.

You have hit the nail on the head. Now if you question, you are gone. Not fired, they don’t want to pay unemployment. They just pour on the work, criticism and stress until you run out the door. It’s crazy chaos now. They talk about appreciation, but what is dished out now is pure abuse. Tm’s justify the abuse because they are paid well. Think about it....that is insane.
