Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Today at the Orange Box

Lowe’s used to be packed and Depot was a ghost town. Now Depot is packed and Lowe’s is moderately busy. Home Depot has a big barbecue and is grilling hamburgers and hot dogs for their customers m. When I walked in a Home Depot manager said, “don’t you work down the street?” I replied, “I used to, I quit a few months back”. Depot manager replied, “if you need a job I’ve seen you work, put in an app and let me know. I’ll find a spot for you. I said, I already found another job that isn’t retail. He shook my hand and said good for you. If anything changes, my name is ——- call me. When i left Lowe’s my store manager never even said thank you or Good Bye. It’s amazing when the competition respects you more than your old boss. Home Depot had an amazing Halloween Display. The pirate ship was off the charts cool.

When I went to see what Lowe’s had. I saw one greeter at the door. She had her back to it. I didn’t see an associate in seasonal, while I looked at Halloween. An assistant manager said, I wish we had you back. I said thanks for the compliment. But I like my weekends off, I wish you all the best. He whispered, this place is falling apart, the new hires come in drunk, they smoke in the parking lot, they are quitting after a couple weeks on the job. I said, I told you I saw what’s coming. Lowe’s couldn’t afford my $24 an hour, and they definitely can’t afford me at the $30 plus commissions I’ve been making since I left. He said I wish I could quit. My advantage is I have a degree and I’m licensed in mortgages. I became a loan agent with a good company. Pass the NMLS test work hard, meet people and network and good things happen.

Similar story for me. I made over $22.00/hr when I left two years ago and had over 20 yrs of valuable, exemplary service with the company. When I turned in my letter of resignation, my hot shot, 30-something store mgr could have cared less. All he saw was an opportunity to hire two more people for what he was paying me. I was just a number to him. I’ve since went to work for a small business in the same industry and my only wish is that I had done it sooner. No weekends, no nights, a stress-free work environment, and a real family-like atmosphere. I genuinely feel sorry for my former coworkers at Lowe’s.

I've a similar experience. No recognition from management for the work I do at Lowe's. Job offers from customers and Home Depot alike. I could sell high end appliances that made our number for the day and I'd get called on the carpet for not opening more credit cards or getting PSE leads.
