Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Oooopsss

Applied with Union Pacific in a cattle call at a Hilton Hotel about 15 years ago. I was the only one in the room offered a job; $52k a year to start. HOWEVER, if they need you to come in on a day or night off, you have to be there in 45 minutes, or explain to the next person on the list why you couldn't. Also you may have to lay over in another part of the country for weeks or longer, having to pay for a hotel as well as your home mortgage / rent. When I asked about being out to dinner or a movie if I'm called, I was told, "When you work for U.P.that all goes away." I'm surprised they have any applicants at all.

I also got hired at UP by attending a hiring session at a hotel. And I also was the only one hired. At first I thought I was really something special but then I figured out everyone else probably just got better job offers lol. Especially after I met some of the other “special” people in my conductor class. I was one of the few that wasn’t a former prison guard or limo driver. I don’t know what 45 minutes to be there stuff you’re talking about. Sounds like your job s—s.
