Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

How many people need to be let go in this quarter to keep the good numbers?

Let’s be realistic, we’re not growing, we’re cutting cost to the maximum, and that’s the main reason why numbers appear good. Lowe’s, at least under this leadership fails to produce any real value. Think it’s fair to ask, how many more employees need to be cut to keep up this illusion of success?

Half of the specialist positions will be gone by end of the quarter. The new staffing model is going to be very lean coverage for higher paid positions and the people who want those positions will be expected to be a "universal specialist". All other non-management positions will be transitioning to part time to allow the payroll hours to flex up or down depending on business volume. Additionally next quarter one region yet to be chosen will be testing "just in time coverage" where the majority of part time associates will no longer be scheduled for more than 4 hours a week during slow periods and instead log-in every morning at home to see if there is any hours available that day. This is stemming from a meeting of all of the major national retailers due what they believe is going to be a very expensive labor market if they don't cut the majority of full-time positions.

It’s hard to say—but with technology constantly changing and improving, I think it’s fair to say that layoffs will continue into the foreseeable future.
