Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Is this true?

  • Walmart is forcing it's employees to reapply and pass a new assessment if they don't they are let go. This is happening in Las Cruces NM it started this month, August 2019. Looks like they are trying to weed out the older people. My mom has been working for 20 years at Walmart and is furious about the whole situation. Seems like discrimination to me we will have to look into this to see if anything can be done.

Is this true? Is it happening at other locations as well? If it is, how low is Walmart willing to stoop to get rid of its hardest working employees?

The old associates are the better workers. They have Walmart culture and they care about the store, the associates, and the customers. A lot of the new people are always calling out or quitting. Good luck Walmart.

The assessments are for lead/cta positions under the new gwp restructure. The expectation is that our leads and associates will be able to operate the new technology and systems. They will also need to be more self sufficient when it comes to the tasks normally placed on People Lead and assistant managers.

@ 3kzo, I'm happy you've found something better to go to, but I'm calling b.s. on that night manager claiming 'it's the store manager's order' that she has to 'get rid of' hourly associates. Her fattened up bonus from less pay roll expense is the the REAL culprit.

yes! Walmart is getting rid of older employees, My overnight Mgr. the other night said she would have to get rid of some of the employees on nights per store Mgr. That is why I am leaving for a better job without a notice I going to screw them as they have me, one to many times! The old saying is if its not broke don't fix it!

Not all jobs are affected. Basically they are re-arranging all duties. I'm old and I keep up with technology, etc. I received a Lead position.

New to me, but I can easily believe it. And yes, it is 100% aimed at weeding out 'old' employees. .. But no, there very likely is nothing to be done about it. If WM is smart, they'll consistently have employees of all ages screened—in so doing they'll lose some of the younger, less paid crew. But without a contract employers can and will screw you as much as they want. In this instance, they legally are covered, 'Well, your Honor, my client simply wants the best trained and most capable employees their money can buy.' Case closed.

I feel bad for your mom and all the other long timers of Walfart. That company truly s—s now.
