How is the layoff structure ? constant ? and would be interested to know if company is doing good.

If you take the GM job use it as a stepping stone to something else and be ready to get laid off or find something better
When I joined GM, the HR showed to me within the first 3 months how they would treat me there, that I was just a number, expendable and replaceable. I stayed there until I could find a better one.
You see... life gets busy, and as you see paychecks coming in regularly, you'll get complacent and content, and stop searching for better & safer job where you're treated as a valuable contributor.
I stayed at 3 years because, as I said, life got busy and I was content. But later, I found something else with a big raise, a place where I'm valued and respected, even by the HR.
TLDR: Use GM as a temporary thing in life. But do not get complacent. As soon as you find what you're looking for, get the heck out of there. You'll thank yourself
Unfortunately GM is too risky.
Can only hope that things will change and they won't have random firings, but I don't see that changing.
Further I think they want to lower wages across the board, I could be wrong about that but that's what I'm seeing on my end from hr and recruiters. Lower pay. Very sad GM.
Anyone that knows how to do anything is being wrung out every day until there is nothing left of them. Everybody else seems to be enjoying their Starbucks and playing ping-pong.
I can understand ^, but sadly this is now a common among all American companies.
Are you seriously considering taking a job at GM after reading the posts on this site? How do you like blue bags?
If you do take the job, remember that there is no job security and GM does not care about you at all.
I would strongly encourage you to consider any other viable options before taking a job at GM.
Really, 10JaYXAY? Have you not read any of the posts on this site? To answer your question, GM has officially become a hire and fire company. Which means that they are likely to have mass hirings , or 'cattle calls' as they are also known as, and then turn around and have mass layoffs when their needs have been fulfilled. This has typically been the standard practice of smaller, sleazier companies but apparently this has become standard practice for GM as per the layoffs of the last year or so. Do what you will but be realistic about the company you are going to work for.
