Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Working at Walmart is not long-time solution

The days when one could start a job at WM and built his carer there are long gone. I know that the old timers who have been here for years have a hard time processing that fact, especially if we keep in mind that they gave their hearts and souls to this company. Today WM is just a machine that uses up the people that start working there quickly and throws them away, nothing else.

It is not greed, it is a changing retail environment. From grocery to buying a car every business is changing to the new ways people shop. Just think about Uber and Lyft. A few years ago you would think that it was crazy, now it is normal. Think Carmax or Carvana. Who would have thought you could have a car delivered to your door.
Same with online shopping, self-checkout, Apple/Google pay, Zelle, and pre-ordering food from an app. It is the future, get on board or get run over.
Gone are the days when you would work for a company for 20,30,40 years and get a nice pension. Most people today will have numerous jobs in their adult years. It is up to you to save, plan for retirement and look out for yourself.

All companies want to take advantage of the "Gig economy"

You're 100% correct, but it's hardly just Walmart. We're living in an era of money lust and unbridled greed such as I've never seen it—and I've been around awhile.

My best advice is stay flexible. Be ready to change jobs many, many times throughout your life, and trust NOTHING.
