We have a lot of absolute garbage middle managers right now (psg 24s-26s) and quite a few really horrible GMs in our technology space. Need to shake things up... Even our top most technology executive lacks tremendous vision and will not be able to execute what Wirth (great CEO) is trying to accomplish. Posting about soft skills on workplace does not equal leadership and sound strategy ahead.

You won’t spend 20% of your time doing PMP. It is a complete waste of time, but it’s not even close to 20%.

The problem with careers at Chevron ITC (Information Technology Company)

Why new graduates should pass on jobs at Chevron ITC (1) and why current employees should leave while they still can…
While a career in at ITC at Chevron may appeal to recent graduates based on overall compensation and benefits, the truth is that most ITC employees at Chevron are not happy.
And yes… That includes recent hires.
While recruiters promise computer science graduates state of the art work, most of them are performing support for third party platforms, while working for team leads who are mostly clueless about technology, efficiency, and who are not motivated to help grow your career (hell if they did, you might take their job).
While other organizations offer on the job training benefits, ITC claims you will spend 20% of your time learning new technologies.
The only thing you are guaranteed to spend 20% of your time on, is filling out your PMP (the archaic internal review system where hundreds of thousands of hours are wasted every year).
The truth is that the middle management running the show will keep you buried in support tickets, and that you will never have time to learn anything to help further your career. They like things the way they are and resent technical workers.
And don’t even bother to try to improve things by speaking up and questioning the way things are done, the hoard of middle managers who have no clue on how to make things more efficient, will come after you and leverage any tools (bad ratings, surveys, gossip with other team leads, etc.) at their disposal to put you back in your place.
Chevron ITC is run mostly by out of touch career bureaucrats, who are more concerned about keeping the status quo while driving the organization forward by looking in the rearview mirror.
Don’t be afraid to say no.
Even billionaires like Warren Buffett are saying no to Chevron(2).
And if you already did, update your resume and run for the door!
In the end it’s just a job.
And there are plenty of them in this booming tech economy.
