1500 contract employees some of whom were supposed to be hired directly me being one of them, fired December 1st.
February, 8000 total or more direct employees fired mostly some ready or close to retirement age.
Plant closures up the wa zooo and a in effective uaw not to mention a CEO finger pointing and laying blame, next up another finger pointing session at the shareholders for now what Barra and crew claim to be that they twisted her arm and the CFOs arm to fire the ever so dear employees which now they claim all of a sudden mean a great deal to the company! This is absolutely mind melting absurdity.
This company will do everything they can to his their lies and keep the money aced in their pockets and at all costs.
Now 9500 or more people won't even consider buying a GM product ever! Right along with family, friends, and anyone close to these workers that have been screwed over by GM.
GM will go out of business and hopefully I'll be alive to see that day and laugh.

So basically we got fired for no reason at all! We all knew that anyways.
Lier's figure and figures lie.
With all the sh– stiring in Communist China GM do you regret putting almost all of your business in that country? Hmm Barra you are sh– out of luck, take your golden parachute and just go the hell away already. What crooks!
Merriam Webster dictionary has not yet caught up then...
laid off; lay·ing off; lays off
transitive verb
1 : to mark or measure off
2 : to cease to employ (a worker) often temporarily
Words change.
Layoff has come to mean losing your job through no fault of your own, and fired has come to mean you gave your employer some cause for letting you go.
Now the CEOs are saying that profits are not so important.
This is after firing thousands. LOL.
Let’s stop using the word layoff, which implies a temporary loss of job. Most of these folks were fired, with no chance of returning.
They were laying off all through 2018.
I was a contract for 18 years, I've applied to many vacant positions, never received one call. The UAW was given my old job.
Some contractors i know re-applied to vacant fulltime positions after being laidoff so the layoff was blessing in disguise - I know it's anomaly case.
Either way, the way contractors were let go by phonecall sat after Thanksgiving was cold sociopathic. Contractors my group lost were clearly the best amongst our group
Same here. My grown children, siblings, spouse's siblings, nieces and nephews have vowed to never buy another GM.
Some contractors were let go as of Nov1.
