Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

We shouldn't let marketing run the business

I agree with 'don't let marketing run the business'. That has been the undoing of Mattel. I worked for Mattel for many years. After watching and studying the Barbie collector market, I came up with a great idea for Barbie Collector. Pitched it to the Senior VP at the time who loved it and moved it through. Six months later, when this VP left, the marketing person halted the project which was past EA stage and said, 'well, not all of the good ideas can make it through!' and cancelled the slots on the BDO. Now, they had nothing for fall. Marketing has no regard for the collectors who had held up the Barbie Collector brand for decades. It's embarrassing and senseless to see how much control they have over products that they would never even buy anyway.

On point post from @10DtIClK-1tke.

Paychecks aren't coming for long. Everyone waiting for severance as a way out is going to be f'd.

Great observation, 10 years too late. Check the stock price. The Titanic has already sunk and you clowns are arguing about how to best arrange six deck chairs still floating in the water.

Now might be a good time to start using that unlimited vacation, while Mattel can still write paychecks. Maybe polish up those resumes and get interviewing. I hear Isaac is hiring.

Who the F cares about the collectors that are stockpiling dolls in their basement.
You can’t run a business like Mattel on collectors. Are you new?
Who do you think buys LOL dolls ?
Marketing people at Mattel are id–ts but you’re right there with them.
How are you so clueless.

I always found it interesting how much power marketing had when I was at Mattel. I was only there a few years but found it odd that a company making children's toys which relies heavy on design and innovation was heavily regulated by marketing. And at the end of it....children still didnt buy the toys or even know the toys were on the shelves. Im still scratching my head on that

It’ll continue to be Marketing lead until they get a new VP that can take on the Marketing leads. Unfortunately, WUWU isn’t that man. He’s sitting pretty and doesn’t have enough basketballs to take HW to a design lead org.
