To the comment about “ask your friends in C and D volume stores” here you go:
We are a C volume store. We have an SM, and an ASM. We have 2 FT Dept Supervisors. We have a FT receiver. Our CST and our IC are part time.
We run on LESS THAN 400 hours.
Yes, we sometimes do have 1 person on the floor- but that’s usually because of call outs. We changed our hours in June so we are now open 10 hours a day instead of 12- it helped a lot. Our staffing matches our business. I wouldn’t know what to do with 475 hours like we used to get many years ago.
Our freight is very controlled for the most part- our Sr managers do a good job st ordering what the business needs Vs building for huge amounts.
We still have to ring back up, but not a big deal.
Our store is always 100% recovered.
Our putaway is done by 10 when we open, and stock replen is done by 11 daily.
Our freight prep is almost always done- with exclusions to Monday’s- where we know it can’t be done.
We have time to rotate our depts as the new guides come out.
Yes sometimes it’s stressful.
Yes, sometimes my associates don’t do the right thing and we have to train them on the right thing.
It’s retail, and I’ve been with this company for more than a decade, and I’ve worked for other retailers as well. It’s not the end of the world. BBB is getting smart. A lot of the complaints here are that people don’t like change. That’s your problem. Price changes are smarter, the no ticket initiative is 99% complete, and that has helped. The new Beyond store has helped, the new return policy. We see a lot of Beyond plus shoppers in our stores, and we do alright with Credit card sign ups. We don’t comp every day yet, but we as stores now have our P&L statements every month, and we are profitable and our store is not going to close, and yes we are a C volume store.
Stop the panic. Yes things are changing daily and I think it’s great because it means that the higher ups are doing their job, and making change happen, and so are we in the store. And my store is in the “central” territory. Just for those who need to care. We are doing fine. The world isn’t on fire, but maybe you are the one with the lighter up against the drapes.
