Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Finally, Some Good News

A year or two ago it seemed GE was only one of a few companies going through hard times, and because of this, GE employees assumed it was just a GE thing. Some people posted here explaining that the problem was much bigger, as the first signs of an economic downturn were showing themselves in the weakest links, GE being one of them.

But of course, most GE employees, here at least, laughed and mocked and insulted such a ridiculous suggestion.
Since then we've watched literally tens of thousands of stores close, and the disease has spread to literally every other industry, especially and including car and home sales, which have both been falling for over a year now, even as GE continues to get even worse by the week.

So, the good news is, all those who tried to do you a solid by warning you, and for their efforts received mocking and insults, are now vindicated at the expense of the mockingbirds, who are now not only out of a job, but proven dead wrong.

The Recession is here and now.

Professing that the dynamic changes in retail that have been underway for years proves an industrial recession is a special kind of stupid. Yes, still mocking you.

The machine that is GE, is too big to fix.

Claiming the USA Today ran an article called "US already in a recession" when the actual title was "Is the US already in a recession? This economist thinks it possible" is sometimes called yellow journalism. Did any of your sources actually say we are in a recession? Or actually say how many quarters in a row of negative GDP growth we've had? Because consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth are generally what defines a recession.
Of course some economists use other definitions. But I'm not sure that reports of layoffs on thelayoff.com is a definition any economist uses. Since doing so would be comical.

I think GE also has some special problems of its own making, alongside experiencing the adverse effects of the US' and world's serious macro-economic issues that the OP mentioned.

Thankfully, there are bright people all over GE still, but it is still a dinosaur in several significant and problematic ways. That isn't helping.

It is also my belief that too large a percentage of people have secretly given up across all layers of GE, and have retreated to just drawing paychecks and looking out for themselves. This I have direct evidence of from my own little corner of GE. That is fixable, but would take a herculean effort over a timespan of years, and maybe some staff turnover.

What I find rather interesting is how one person’s bad news can be another person’s good news. It all depends on where you are positioned when the reality becomes undeniably evident. However the reality effects you is due to your own decision making and yours alone.
