Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

Same thing will happen to higher volume stores

What has happened to the lower volume stores in the last 2 years will be mirrored onto the higher volume stores. That means the only full timer will be the store manager. All other positions will be part time–24 hours or less. ASMs will be replaced by part time supervisors, who will have the same responsibilities, but will have to do it in 4-5 hours a day, 5 days a week.

I left earlier this year, and it's the best decision I've made. Now working in a company that has better benefits, I'm not spread thin, and I'm not expected to do 5 or more roles in the store.

To the comment about “ask your friends in C and D volume stores” here you go:
We are a C volume store. We have an SM, and an ASM. We have 2 FT Dept Supervisors. We have a FT receiver. Our CST and our IC are part time.
We run on LESS THAN 400 hours.
Yes, we sometimes do have 1 person on the floor- but that’s usually because of call outs. We changed our hours in June so we are now open 10 hours a day instead of 12- it helped a lot. Our staffing matches our business. I wouldn’t know what to do with 475 hours like we used to get many years ago.
Our freight is very controlled for the most part- our Sr managers do a good job st ordering what the business needs Vs building for huge amounts.
We still have to ring back up, but not a big deal.
Our store is always 100% recovered.
Our putaway is done by 10 when we open, and stock replen is done by 11 daily.
Our freight prep is almost always done- with exclusions to Monday’s- where we know it can’t be done.
We have time to rotate our depts as the new guides come out.
Yes sometimes it’s stressful.
Yes, sometimes my associates don’t do the right thing and we have to train them on the right thing.

It’s retail, and I’ve been with this company for more than a decade, and I’ve worked for other retailers as well. It’s not the end of the world. BBB is getting smart. A lot of the complaints here are that people don’t like change. That’s your problem. Price changes are smarter, the no ticket initiative is 99% complete, and that has helped. The new Beyond store has helped, the new return policy. We see a lot of Beyond plus shoppers in our stores, and we do alright with Credit card sign ups. We don’t comp every day yet, but we as stores now have our P&L statements every month, and we are profitable and our store is not going to close, and yes we are a C volume store.

Stop the panic. Yes things are changing daily and I think it’s great because it means that the higher ups are doing their job, and making change happen, and so are we in the store. And my store is in the “central” territory. Just for those who need to care. We are doing fine. The world isn’t on fire, but maybe you are the one with the lighter up against the drapes.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens. Hope at least they make these changes before holiday season so stores can adapt to the new structure. Good luck to all.

Wow no need to be rude. I'm neither blind nor in denial. Just seems like a bunch of bs because such changes don't seem to be happening anywhere trackable. Maybe provide areas or stores where this has happened? And again seems odd you're so in the know but can't even provide even a vague timeline. Seems instead like you just want to either scare people for some reason or you're still bitter.

Just ask your fellow BBB workers (the ones that are left anyway) from D and C volume stores. Ask them how many full timers they have left. Ask them about how many times they had ONE associate covering both hard side and soft side. Ask them how they feel when they get blamed from both customers and regional staff because their stores look like c-ap. Ask them how hard it is to pay their bills working 16-25 hours a week when they're a "MANAGER". Ask them about how many "leads with keys" they have and "what happened to your ASMs? Where are your seniors?" They won't even know what that means, because they'll be new people and they were hired after the ASMs and seniors were moved, or were replaced by them.

Once you do that, you'll have a more clear vision of what your future will look like if you stay at BBB.

Other facts–the hours that they've cut, continue to cut, and WILL keep cutting. My A volume store had cuts, and we thought they were over. And then more cuts came, and then more. The merchandise reduction initiative, the cuts from corporate positions, the fact that they haven't made the interim CEO permanent yet, not have they found a new person for the job. Are these not facts to you? Are you blind, or just in denial?

And do you really think BBB stock will survive once the recession fully hits? What about the holiday season? Think UGG and Bee & Willow will save BBB? I'm not trying to be mean, just honest.

If I were you, I would take advantage of the hiring spike before the holidays and leave before this boat sinks. I left already and I'm so glad I did.

No not really. Just laughable you people keep posting the same nonsense over and over. Then it never happens, you go quiet for awhile then post again via your LOL corporate source.
