Why would SM care? His salary is based on meeting/beating numbers. If being virtuous impacts the profit margin - what's his incentive?
SM is not looking for long-term value for the stockholders. Next Q and end of year numbers matter - as these translate to $$$ in his earnings!
Virtue signally is costly. Acceptance and support will last as long as profits/dividends are rolling in.
