Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

How hard is it to get store level jobs at other companies?

I really don’t want to stay at Lowe’s, as I don’t see that anything good can come from the way this company is ran, or from this leadership. On the other hand, I really don’t have time to go job-hunting, so the only thing left for me to do is leave and devote my time to finding another job. You can understand that a decision like that is scary, to say the least. So, I was hoping to get some info on just how hard is it to find a job in retail these days? Some say the market is good, some that it isn't. Any tips on job hunting?

With the economy being like it is, jobs in retail right now are plentiful. Most big companies, like Lowes, are operating without many positions being filled. That being said, if I had a job at Lowe’s but was looking to move then I would be very selective. As bad as Lowe’s is to work for right now, there is worse out there. I’d research very carefully before making a change, but there are lots of online tools now to do that.

If there are other jobs in your area. Bank tellers start around $15, Chick Fil A starts around 14, mortgage processing $17 or $18.... don’t just have eyes for retail.

I think it depends on where you live. In my area, it’s not difficult to find a job in retail.

A bit of advice: Don’t quit Lowe’s until you find your new job, especially if you’re questioning the ease of finding a new position and the state of the market.

Do you work full-time at Lowe’s? If time is an issue and you're full-time employee, ask if you can instead go part-time, secure a new job and then quit Lowe’s.
