Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

When will they stop with the big reductions of workers?

I know for a fact that a lot of organizations are operating on the verge of operability as it is. Are we close to the point where they can’t lay off any more employees because that would make some parts of the company inoperable? Are we close to that point or not?

As a former employee, who had over 10 years at Cisco, it was a good run. Some who are now there are very happy–generally newer, younger employees. Good for you! But for those who feel like opportunities are diminishing or your time is limited, please be advised there are great opportunities out their with other companies– and your experience is valued.

If the future put forward by Cisco to you doesn't float your boat, float your own boat. Good luck to all of you!

It would be nice if some of the Billions that we brought back to the US would go to saving some jobs. You know, the people deal we keep hearing about. I wish someone would corner Chuck on that in an AMA but all of the questions are prescreened so I guess it's not really ask me anything.

It won’t stop until new labor laws are enacted to prevent it, which means it won’t stop anytime soon. Cisco (and most large, publicly traded companies) will continue to take every opportunity to save a penny, employees and communities be d*mned. Too many Cisco employees do not understand how stock price is calculated and manipulated, and Cisco leadership is counting on you not understanding that. So please educate yourself. If one more of my peers talks about how great the company is doing and basing their argument solely on stock price, I’m going to lose what’s left of my mind.

Laid off in Sept. 2016 because I was 50+ with 20+ years at Cisco. We had tons of work and were understaffed. Was also working in cloud deemed as the future for Cisco (even though Chuckles said the layoffs were to align Cisco's push into cloud related business). Layoffs at Cisco rarely have anything to do with business conditions or individual performance.

it is an engrained process at Cisco now. It won't stop until we get a CEO from outside the company and even then there is no guarantees.

it is the fire and hire cycle, then repeat. older highly paid emps are chopped and replaced by younger grads at lower pay scale. some of the work is continuously outsourced to India and east europe.
