I never understand why people who are eligible to retire just keep hanging around. And most of them are always complaining about the conditions too. We had a coworker who retired and actually takes home more per month on retirement with the two tiers.
I'd like to know this as well. If I was eligible to retire, I would grab that chance yesterday. So why do people stay if they have a ticket out of this place?
Oh i retire but when im ready your not promised your retirement you will be contracted out most likely before you retire so when i die you will be at a nother job you will be complaining about wishing you where still on that cushy UP job
We have 2 🦖 🦕 dinosaurs at our shop who cry and complain everyday. They keep getting their jobs abolished and harassed weekly and they still don’t gtfo!!
They have no life besides working for the railroad, they have homes paid off and big coin in the bank, they just don’t have a life besides working for tha 👨 MAN!
This isnt to point or place blame but if your waiting to cash in I dont know how that will happen unless you are a white hat. Doesn't your retirement go off your best five years. If you dont have thirty hell yes you should keep going if you are able. And to all the younger guys, just remember when they die that retirement money just stays there so let them keep working themselves to death so we can retire early. And there was as guy in north platte who made more a month once he retired.
If you’re eligible to retire and don’t while your younger brothers are getting furloughed then you are a selfish POS. If you can’t afford to retire at 60 because you don’t know how to manage money then shame on you.

Hey Just for something to do ! get a life Man! I got out at 60 and have never looked back. Everyday is a Friday. Had to wait 14 months for my wife to get her pension , but I would pull the pin the same way again. Life is to short your finished now retire . Give back volunteer , do something different , work out , travel, sleep late .
I roll my eyes when eligible guys complain about the railroad. It’s like nails on a chalkboard! Surely everyone listening it’s thinking why doesn’t this fool retire? I know I do.
If it’s just for something to do, I can sure think of many other things to do that involve mountains, lakes, boats, clear streams, fire pits, wine, socializing, tinkering on a classic car, remodeling a room, walks in the woods, the beach, exploring, I could go on for hours....
In my case, it is just for something to do. AND to keep pulling in a salary as long as possible, thus making the retirement pot that much bigger when I finally leave.
House is paid for, spouse is retired, kids are through college and have their own successful careers started, and I get plenty of vacation time. So ask yourself... WHY should I retire? Would you?
Jealousy is an ugly emotion.
Everyone's situations are different. We've all made different choices in life. Some guys can't retire because they're having to raise their grandkids. Never question another man's actions until you've walked a mile in his shoes.
Many reasons. 1. Their spouses are probably younger than they are, meaning they won’t be getting that tier 2 right off the bat. 2. Healthcare costs a lot of money until they can get Medicare. 3. Children in college. 4. They like what they do.
Everyone has their own reasons. If you can’t understand that, maybe it’s because you don’t want to understand.
