Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Another stellar Chevron moment in CA again.

Chevron showing their commitment to professionalism and responsible and safe operations in California again. Another nice big oil spill. Such a great company. Can't be deadwood - they don't work at Chevron, do they??!

@dnaa— Thanks for your comment. As a Chevron employee, I share the same view. We have moved away from our core values and tenets of operation. The messaging we get and the actions we see from our management is disheartening. Be careful the general public and investors don’t start catching on also.

Should have left California a long time ago. Won't be long, plans are already in progress.

The surface seeps continue uncontrolled.

Some issues come to mind. Under the new CEO, there is a marked de-emphasis on safety and capex reduction. The Chevron Way and Tenets of operation are seldom mentioned. We used to start every meeting with a safety moment. The SJVBU assets are is in the mature stage of maturity. Focus must be on getting the last of the last out of the ground. Was the reservoir overpressured this effort? Did that affect well casing integrity? Are there many, many other wells in the field that may have integrity issues also? The cost of reworking such wells is not trivial. How many other releases or “surface expressions” are there that we do not even know about? Why has leadership not gotten out in front of this story instead of suppressing it? Why haven't we seen the CEO out there in tyveks and a hardhat helping out the optics on that. Why would we ask for more specific guidance from reg. agency? Is there more to this story?

8boq, How was the spill foreseeable and preventable?

Spill coverage extensive in CA news including LA Times and KQED.
Despite attempts to surpress.

I can't think of a base business spill that has been in the news. Was there one?

All of the spills are coming from base business, not D&C. Anyone who is familiar with the business would know that.

Why are the Chevron spills always from the Drilling function? What happened to Well Safe and begging the Navy to help us improve?

VP of HES was in the Houston office last week, looking quite distressed and haggard. Imagine having such a vast oil spill in about the worst place we operate for a spill. This threatens our license to operate. It was forseeable and preventable. Heads will roll.

But California is social engineering friendly. HQ will never leave San Ramon. Unless Chevron wants to refocus on its core oil and gas business. And get better leadership in place instead of going the way of the weasel. How many more people are going to lose their jobs in SJVBU as this recent spill debacle continues?

@6pjt, California is not business friendly to big oil. This is only one more example why it won’t be too long before Chevron starts erecting a new ivory tower in downtown Houston and moving the headquarters here.

Now we have US Senator saying in the public media that Chevron purposely mislead the CA reg agency. That agency now says Chevron release (spill, surface expression or whatever) was much larger than reported by Chevron implying a purposeful misreport (?) More damning photos and satellite images released. And still not one statement to employees. Were is CEO W’less? Why no transparency? Maybe he is out sailing with that retired BP exec.

Get your terms right :) It was a surface expression. An 800,000 gal surface expression.

Was not a spill, as the stuff needs to be contained before it can be “spilled”. It was a steam enhanced oil seep. ;-). Get you terms right mate.

Interesting that this story did not break until a day after the CA regulatory head was terminated by the Gov. and 7 of the head’s supervisors were identified as investing in oil and gas companies. Conflict of interest? How much was actually released? How can you tell the amount of product versus water when it is seeping out of the ground? Strange CNN isnt covering the story.

You can’t be serious if you believe you can operate an oil company with zero-chance of a spill. Get real, people. That’s a pipe dream. You WILL have a spill now and then. Understand that much and get your expectations in order.

I worked in sJv and can say Chevron is more committed than the rest of the operators in the area. There is a nonstop campaign to find a solution to GS5.
