Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Marvin’s Big List of Accomplishments

With Marvin near his first year anniversary with Lowes let’s pause, take a moment, and reflect on his accomplishments.

  1. Exited Mexico

  2. Shut down orchard supply

  3. Shut down “under performing” Lowes and Rona stores

  4. Eleminated loss prevention from stores

  5. Shut down the PSI program

  6. Eleminated HR from stores

  7. Reduced hours during the 100 days

  8. Took away chairs and tables from department “desks”

  9. Eliminated store wide emails

  10. Brought us “customer centric” schedules

What have I missed? Marvin’s been very busy; has your life gotten better or worse since Marvin took over?

Love the new delivery company. lol Get calls all day complaining because the delivery people do not speak English and do not know how to do simple set up for appliances or damage walls, ding appliance, etc. Customers are irate. Thanks Marvin for giving Lowes an even worse reputation. I bet it will cost more in time spent handling complaints, lawsuits, damages, returned merchandise that got damaged, etc. than the cost of keeping the knowledgeable delivery employees and Lowes trucks.

WOW! One hell of a soliloquy there. Sick days, short term disability, and fmla are not interchangeable.

Course of action is this for anyone else in same situation.

Schedule surgery and don’t say anything until day of. Call in that day and say you are going to the doctor. Call day following surgery and say still not feeling well. Call in third day and say still not well but have a doctors note. Continue until able to return to work.

If you try to do the right thing they will steal your vacation and holiday pay for these events.

I left Lowes with 380 sick hours accrued. I was sick one day the whole ten years. Still got quizzed about my “day off”.

They force you to game the system because if you don’t then the system is designed to take advantage for the sake of profit.

Go do less

I tried to schedule sick days because I was having surgery. They turned it down. I told them I was giving them a two month notice and if not approved then I will just call out anyway. I thought that companies are required to let people have medical procedures done, etc. So I am over 50 and they turned me down. Then there were some under 50 who asked for last minute days off for no reason and they were given the days off without question. The supposed customer centric schedule allows them to pick and choose who they want to screw over. In our store, it is anyone over 50 who never gets more than one day off at a time, get scheduled for 7 days straight before a vacation that is scheduled, close almost all the time, always close on holidays, etc. It is the younger ones (despite being written up for offending customers and employees, being under performers and calling out all the time) who get two days off consecutively, have no problem getting their schedules changed so they can go to a concert or party, etc. It is blatant. No, it is not discrimination based on performance, wage, etc. It is merely discrimination based on age. Why did they keep the new scheduling c-ap in Florida? Because there are a lot of older employees. Florida has a lot of low paying jobs so when companies laid off people, etc., some of these older employees took Lowe's jobs because it paid better at the time. Lowe's is trying to run out the older people but they fail to recognize that they can't get younger people. Younger people can get paid well at Aldi, Fresh Market, etc. There are more businesses but they tend to also want to just hire young. So, if an older employee needs to work, then your ploy is not going to run them out of the company but it may make all of the employees get sick from never having down time. What costs more money 1) having employees work on old matrix scheduling where you get two days off consecutively most of the time and a weekend off a month or 2) people calling out all the time because they are exhausted and need time off? The old matrix system wasn't great but at least it allowed people to know when they can make doctor appointments or have time to schedule family outings, etc. Also, if it is so important we are working on weekends, why are you giving people off one day on Saturday or Sunday. Pets in our store were given several Saturdays or Sundays off in a row. If you can give a Saturday or Sunday off then you sure can give a weekend off a month. It is all about Lowes power play, being abusive, trying to destroy people's lives and run out all older employees and full time employees in a right to work state where you can get away with it. I find it interesting also how many store managers, ASM's, etc., that have been run out of the company recently in the stores around this area and replaced with people in their 20's . One day you will have destroyed so many people that you can't find any body who wants to work at Lowes. People will be disgusted about how they were treated and they will just go to Home Depot to shop. You already angered the Vets by cutting their discounts in half. You will anger people when now they cannot buy appliances and take them with them. You removed everything that made us different from Home Depot. If we are a clone, we have no chance of succeeding because Home depot will continue to win. You should have focused on making us more unique rather than more similar. There are so many things that are wrong and have gotten way off track since Marvin came here. Not great before but horrendous now. You destroyed any company loyalty there was. You destroyed any pride we had in working for Lowes. We are beat down and exhausted. We can't sell and service the customer to our best abilities when we have not had more than a day off at a time for two months. Only being given one weekend a month and all other days off are only one day at a time is absolute cruelty, sweat shop mentality and I thought sweat shops were outlawed years ago. I don't think the company will be able to pull itself out of this downward spiral.

Marv was chosen because he was cheap. Half the price Niblock made. He's nothing but a token man for the shareholders to yell at. Not an inspirational bone in his body. Just try to clone what worked 20 years ago.

The man is a monkey, plain and simple. Low IQ, greedy, and incompetent. Oh, and a liar too so he has no ethics.

Everyone do as little as possible. If Grandma needs help, spend 4 hrs with her until she gets the right washer she needs. Do cuistomer service 1000%.

Everything at the store level is dumb, doesnt work, and is completely broken.

You guys forgot all the corp layoffs, and the AEP's let go. The "undercover boss" roll out with "secret shoppers".

This monkey took my chair away 3 weeks ago. I literally cannot, and will not do my job since, or going fwd. I have no gotten one "10" from surveys, whereas prior I was getting him 1 a day. I have not worked up a single design, or estimate. I vacate the area and just sweep or help customers buy .20 cent items. If Monkey wants us away from the desk by taking our chairs away, then he has sacrificed large sales for small ones and thats what he'll get. I dont answer phones, or the call button. Im busy with customers.

Monkey plays his games, Ill play mine. Monkey wont support me at all? Then he gets no support from me. Its what I teach my 5 yr old - respect, treat people nicely. Monkey must have been raised in the jungle.

I hope he comes to my store. Ill spit in his monkey face. Worthless, spineless, lying, tithead. That monkey bald head of his looks like a p*ckerhead.

Worse. Much worse. Now when I request vacation time it often gets denied for lack of coverage in departments.

...and “Power Hours” when it’s “Absolutely no tasking” or “You can do this but not that” or “They can task but you can’t” or “Ignore it and get all this done” depending on the day of the year or phase of the moon...or something.

Scare tactics... very simple..

So, very simply go to your closest Home Depot, ask to speak to their store manager...

They’ll him/her you work for Lowe’s, and tell your position....and that you’d like to work for them...

They most likely will hire you in a few days time.... they did me

Fxxk Lowe’s.....

He used non waterproof and uv reactive ink in his Homedepotesque handwritten signs, making an especially terrible presentation after being in the elements for any length of time. Great foresight, boss.

Dont forget, he also forgot that when cost goes up, you need to increase prices to retain the same margin rate. He also mixed up margin and markup when talking down to his entire workforce.
