Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

A Joyless Place to Work.

I have worked for Lowe’s for many years now and I have never seen morale this bad. In my store we are so under staffed it’s ridiculous. People keep quitting or disappearing without even bothering to give notice. We are all micromanaged to such a degree now that even the senior managers in the building run for their cars when their shift is over. They don’t even pretend to give a sh*t anymore.

Don’t get me wrong. Lowe’s has never been a super fun place for everyone. I get infuriated by customers and associates alike from time to time. Lowe’s has always been backward and confused in their adaptation of tech and policies. But I’ve never seen it where even the managers can’t be relied on or even bother to pretend that they care about their jobs. Listening to ASMs and the Store Manager bad mouth the company on the sales floor and leave early day after day is something new to me. I’ve had it. I’ve worked for this place for some time but it’s become a soul s---ing misery now. For the first time in years I’m seriously looking for the exit.

I'm a supervisor in the building and I'm done. I'm telling everyone to look for another job because this sht is about to get worse. As the market director put it the other day, "This is the new Lowe's, forget about everything you knew about the old Lowe's." I never thought I would say this but Nibdcks Lowe's was actually better and that's not really saying much.

I've studied the newer generation and I like their work ethic. Let's face it life is much easier when you walk around and talk on your cell phone and get help with all lifting or just plain disappear for a little bit when I'm feeling stressed

I gave it up in 2017 after I was demoted from DM in 2016 to night stocker, all in the name of "saving the company". At that time, I was a 17 year employee and, although Lowe's was and still is one of the worst companies to work for, at least they paid fairly. Reading this today in 2019 makes me glad that I say to h*** with Lowe's. To any Lowe's veteran, like I was, reads this, remember that Lowe's isn't the only ship in the sea and if I were you, leave and never look back. You will find better. Stop moving around the deck chairs on the Titanic and let it sink before it takes you with it.

The company has been taking away perks year after year and Marvin is just more of the same. Problem is when you cut from a company that has already been gutted there is nothing left for workers to give.

I get that Lowes need to be profitable. I get that its a business. However, the company only seems to cut the perks of store level workers, including managers. If there were announcements of some cuts to bonuses and pay at corporate levels then at least they could claim it was being done all around.

So true. Dont know where you are, but here in NY / NJ, same thing. Everyone hates going to work, and management are pigs. I now (I was once a hustler, always doing more) skate all day. There is NO SOUND REASON to be a good employee. No reward, and a proper policy for threatening managers is to do less.

People do not respond to lies, fear, and intimidation. They respond to openess and honesty. Lowes is done.
