Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Think they scanned Yammer as part of the selection process?

I was impressed that GM even had Yammer.

It’ seems to be used much more for commentary (why don’t make x) and candid thoughts (my uncle can’t drive now, but he has to pay lease), that interest people, rather than problems (my Vis has a glitch) that the company want us collaborating to correct.

It can be a time waster as it sometimes tells unflattering truths

Perhaps it was part of the plan to identify people with too much time on their hands, for this moment in time.

besides tracking yammer remember the company can track what time you badge in and out, if you are working from home or working from work they can monitor every keystroke to see how productive you are, and they can monitor how fast and where you drive with your company phone

That is pretty ridiculous if they would do something like that I was a NCH and have been here for a few years. I posted on yammer a lot about work related stuff and sometimes random stuff as well. I just got laid off last week. I know my boss would tell me to stay off yammer, but I never thought it might cost me my job.

I was let go this past week. My cap reviews for past 3 years were spot on (I never "exceeded").

I have never posted on Yammer while I was there. I think I read 1 or 2 posts on the site for my mobile issue help. That was the extent of my Yammer usage. Not sure if that was factor in me getting cut

Yes as a manager I can confirm I know that was a part of the selection criteria but I am not sure to what extent.

I was on Dank and posted about the layoffs.

I didn't get let go,but I did leave on my own terms in Jan.

GM needs to start hiring A players and not base their hiring on diversity.

F--- PC. you're not gonna survive this way

I checked a few people who were frequent commenters in the Dank, and they were gone.

In my area, people seem to be afraid to use Yammer, like it will get them pegged as wasting time. I tend to stay away from anything that is not work related, including the meme stuff. Some things posted there could “offend” the wrong people and these days, HR could construe even a innocent thing into “offensive”.

I just want to know if we will get our Chick--A in the podium. I think some 85% of 1500 voted for it, but a few people didn’t want it there, as one said, “because it’s Christian”. Then a bunch of people went back and forth until a director of communications jumped in to end the escalating argument. We will eventually see when the podium reopens whether the will of the people is accepted or something else goes in. Some have objections to Starb* but go to Ein* for their coffee. It’s called a choice.

I remember one guy involved in that argument - and he’s gone, not that it was this that sacked him. He was all over Yammer.

How did those in the gaming forum do? I did not spend time in there so I don’t know if there were people spending a lot of time in it, but it looked pretty active.

Yep. My colleague jumped on yammer to check the Dank Meme Group. He said the frequent players are gone! I can’t confirm.

But, it does make you step back and think twice (after this layoff bs) before jumping online under GM WiFi to check stocks, this site, etc.

In my area, those that were walked out tended to be the lowest performers. Not necessarily "bad" performers - they got their work done, but their peers tended to perform a bit better or had multiple skills. I doubt that Yammer usage would be a factor.
