Thread regarding PepsiCo Inc. (Pepsi) layoffs

Useless Unit Managers

Are they going to eliminate them? Surf the net all day and collect their bonuses and trips for their families and frinds. The most useless position in Pepsico

I am a NASM and will say that the Unit Manager job is one of the hardest jobs at Pepsi. They work 60+ hours per week, are on call 24/7 and have to put up with never ending trade tours. They are one of the hardest working employees at Pepsi. I say this as an employee with 20 yrs who has worked out of 4 different plants.

Woah op, your UM takes his/her family on vacation? What a crook. They’re looking at the internet? Likely managing hours and headcount to keep you from getting OT. If it wasn’t for your UM you would likely be 25% less productive and your manager would sit in the office instead of coaching you. You sound like a cancer employee.

My old UM used to help me load trucks - this new one walks around the wh every morning picking up garbage and gets upset if the pallets in the pick lanes aren’t square. Find something better to do pal. Then he looks at cracks in the floor, spider webs in the ceilings and has us clean everything and seal the cracks on downtime. Damn near slave driver. The guy is a chump. He only brings food in for customer events or twice a year for big meetings. Back in my day we used to get food all the time, damn near every week . This place isn’t what it used to be. Also, our UM doesn’t even work the shift everyone else has to. The old days our GMs used to work 6-4 now this guy shows up between 4-9 am and randomly leaves so nobody knows his schedule. It’s like he’s always there but never there. Where do I sign up for a job that gets to buy food whenever you want for only events you think are important, sit in a big comfy chair and tell all the workers who built this company what to do. Oh, and the dirtbag eliminated around 10% of our workforce the last 12 months and the expectation is still no OT. So I’m sure he will get some big raise because he didn’t backfill any of the roles that were vacated. Now everyone has to run just to get our work done while him and some id--t customers eat Panera for lunch. I need that job SMH

As a Unit Manager I am offended. Small Bonus once a year. Over 60+ hours a week on call 24/7 have full P&L response ability. Route ride with SDL for a full day only to go back to the office to do my job. Frontline may think that we do nothing but keep in mind many of us did their job for several years before becoming a Unit Manager. The work may not be as physical but more stressful as they are accountable for every department and employee in that building. Maybe your Unit manager was not surfing the web but rather adding innovation to the orders that was missed so he/she can improve the CR score for running the play that they forgot to run. Then you state when they are their your upset on going back to your work area? He or she probably has a weekly cost call with HQ on the poor results of your teams execution or lack of productivity happening while he is away. Sure their are probably some out their that may not be doing the job. To that I would say work with your HR representatives to expose the issues if they are legitimate. Otherwise find something else that you like to do as no one wants a unhappy worker on their team and no one should not like what they do and stay. I stated above 60+ hours a week and on call 24/7 with a surprise very small once a year bonus but I love what I do so I do it with a smile. I also take great pride as a former frontline employee I can help remove barriers that used to frustrate me to make it a better place to work.

Unit managers do nothing. Every time mine is gone we always sit around and talk about how annoying it is we don't know what they do. I hate when they actually do show up because I have to go back to my work area
