Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Any chance today is not the day?

Since there have been no news of layoffs today so far, is there ANY chance today is not the day after all?

That is not what it says in what I was given for voluntary. Those getting involuntary will get team GM with performance factor. Those hat took voluntary get 100% performance factor. A friend heard that performance factor for involuntary will be 90%

@X8fWYrN-1wvh you are correct.

Those that took the voluntary packages will get teamGM bonus.

Those that are executive-level will also get a teamGM bonus.

Those that are involuntary will not get a teamGM bonus.

@1bws That conflicts directly with HR's public response to the involuntary layoffs question that they will not receive a teamGM bonus unless the effective date of their layoff is on or after March 1. I would imagine those who took the voluntary package would be eligible to receive the bonus.

Per documentation provided to those considering voluntary, involuntary will happen mid to late January and those impacted will be considered employees through Feb and. Receive Team GM. Then severance will start March 1. I heard that reductions for IT will not start before next week. Policy/legal required changes.

Ahh my bad. Miss read what was in the staffing reduction policy. It did say year to date 2018 and not the entire CAP process.

6000 isn't a confirmed number and we are talking across multiple locations. I'm sure some will be hit more than others. Most people at the Rencen apart from IT and Project Managers aren't worried.

I see no way on Earth that the cuts don't start next week and occur in some rolling fashion across the company with a goal of completing them by the end of January. There is NO way they have enough security in place to escort all those people at the GM Tech Center or Ren Cen offsite at the same time. Also one must consider the logistics involved in having these folks turn in their laptops and GM property and the fact that their access to GM online systems needs to be shut down ASAP. So things like their AD account and VPN access needs to be shut down. No way could 6000 folks be done all at once.

@qrr - I can also confirm the stack rank stuff being done in December.

Our director confirmed that these were cost reductions, not headcount reductions. So I doubt performance is playing a major role in any of this. They are going for overpaid first and foremost. Then, trimming the fat. Overbloated teams or teams that are no longer needed due to vehicle lines being cut.

stack ranked and current headcount numbers were submitted by mid-December. This has been verified by several managers (Atlanta and Austin). CAP was not submitted.

If CAP is supposed to be used for the decision making and it isn’t due until 2/22 then will it even happen this month?

Definitely a chance, but given that the pay period was today I believe there was a lot of suspicion that people would be let go before GM is on the hook for another pay period for them?
