Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

OneGF survey results will show how excited everyone is about pivot. If I’m proven wrong I’ll quit this board.

Like has been said on this board a few times, in order to get promoted you need to be either part of the ex-Chartered or the ex-IBM clique. Otherwise, get used to your job title (until the next layoff).

It is true there are MANY talented people . I was laid off with the many others but it is comical to have such great things to say about management and employee recognitions. That is true unless you worked in test and had managers who were from Singapore who belittled women and refused to give them pay raises and promotions . I was friends with a co worker whom management whispered about to EVERYONE about her seizure disorder, she was a good worker, went out of her way for others, openly joked about her condition his exact words and how she would not progress within because of this. I am a male and this sickens me. Unless you are part of the good ol boys club it is true you go nowhere. I stay low and go out with the boys and see all the politics first hand. Sniffing a-- has a led me to keep my job

@Bigpivot - What it looks like to most of the semiconductor world is that 2018 is "peak revenue" year for Fab8. It will never, ever generate as much revenue as it does this year. With no new technology on the horizon, and the key 14LPP customer moving to TSMC 7nm, the ASPs and wafer numbers will decrease from this point forward. You can cry "derivatives" but what is even defined yet? Isn't the general consensus that Fab8 needs to capture something like 25-30% of the derivatives over the next few years even to keep the doors open. That's a big order and the whole idea of the differentiated products is more products from more customers and the management at Fab8 has no idea how to handle that, the main focus has been on 2 1/2 customers (AMD, Qualcomm and IBM 14HP which is 1/2 done in Malta).

My hope is something is able to work out for all my colleagues that are still there, I just don't see it, the numbers don't work. The company's already set itself up to show that if something is too hard or doesn't work out quick enough, they will abandon the project. So who's going to sign on for any of the early derivative flows given Fab8's history of throwing the towel? AMD has gotten screwed twice with 20nm and 7nm, putting in resources, product designs, etc only for the project to be abandoned. The best outcome is that some other company buys Fab8 and it is repurposed (unless it is Samsung and they can keep running 14LPP).

The rest of the world is already experiencing a major slowdown in the fields of Mobile and Crypto-currency which will only get worse in 2019 , not to mention the fact that we are overdue for a major recession.

That "buzzing" you hear at Malta isn't a "new energy", it is all the phones vibrating from recruiter and interview scheduling calls for the engineers looking to Exit---Fab Left.

At GF, every employee is valued. From the top executives down to the technicians. Whats great about working here is the diverse culture where we can be open and honest about our vision for the future. I've noticed an increase in enthusiasm and a drive for excellence since the Pivot and I think we're on track for big wins in 2019. Dont believe the hype about directors and such not having people reporting to them. There are a lot of talented people who work on cross functional teams and indirectly manage other people. The Malta site is really buzzing now with a new energy and we don't pay much attention to the negative energy from those who unfortunately had to leave.

funny thing is that I am working with a number of directors and senior managers who don’t have anyone except themselves in their team.
