Okay. How is it determined in groups who gets laid off? I have seen so many good workers get let go while the horrible ones stay on. Do they put names in a hat and draw, or is it manager’s choice? I always was curious.

If you are a manager or director that doesn't know about the upcoming layoff then you are part of them. There are 3 different types of Layoffs, 1st is cut a percentage of the workforce like 10%, 2nd cut as many people you can without cutting production, 3rd is we need to save X amount of money in payroll and they will cut until they reach that number. Usually in this case is when managers dont know who is getting cut until the last second because finance and HR is making the list.
If you are in the know about layoffs, they make you sign a paper that says you won't disclose any information about possible cuts, if you do tell then you will be fired. Most managers and directors won't say a word because they are too worried about there own jobs.
Your always have to have some employees on the ropes (PIP). So you can walk them out the door so T-bag can get his bonus. Do not ask for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for they. AKA you time is coming soon. Get out.
It's not consistent. One of the layoffs last year was decided higher up than my director, HR/Finance, I had no say in who got laid off. Another one I had more of a say and submitted performance rankings. Numbers and who gets cut is decided higher up and we get word the day before. Sometimes we have an idea a layoffs coming and others it's a surprise.
WVYiKe3-qtm is correct, I had asked my Director point blank and that is how it is done.
The decision comes from the director level, if the director has no clue about the employees then he picks randomly, usually he will ask the managers for there input before he lays people off. Then the manager will act like he or she had no clue about the layoffs.
LOL!. There is no structure when it comes to decision making. It's based around being part of the "good ole boys club". You are either in or out of that.... lol good luck. So happy I left that trash can company. I love coming to this site and reading so much negativity. I know Tony Thomas is some where out there crying... i just want to lick his salty tears.
My guess is it is purely money driven. The better FTE’s are normally better paid so they are the ones to go when saving money. Since the bad team members are lower paid they get to live on for another day.
