Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

There's nothing we can do

To all my colleagues, I regret that we are all circling this drain together. If there was anything I could do to help this business escape the death spiral, I would have already done it. The fact is that there's nothing we can do. Laughter is the only thing we still have, as there's no morale left to crush.

GE'S operation is just like the Democrats because Flannery was in bed with them just like Immelt, was before him. They set themselves in alignment with Hillary, but she did not win. Culp, is just another chip off the same block. The plan, to hell with the Employees and Retirees. Break up the company in blocks and sell it all off. Split the profits with the stockholders, and leave town!

Right, With Musk in charge it will be ok to smoke pot at lunch time. At least that would be a better excuse for poor decision making than these mo--ns have had so far.

Nuclear business went through this in 80s. When market changes, businesses have to reinvent themselves.

World needs electricity more than ever. That need is not going away anytime in our lifetime.

Business model will have to change, for sure as power costs drop and usage goes up (think of all transportation going from gas/diesel to electric). GE will be a player after the dust settles.

It needs to employees to rally behind a new century of power and reinvent how the world gets power. Gas turbines, steam turbines, wind, solar, batteries, fuel cells - all these will be part of the future. GE needs to ignore the shareholders for a couple of years and focus on creating 21st century infrastructure for power and mobility.

It is not helping that top leadership is being controlled by hedge funds and analysts who can’t wait or even care about next 10 year needs of customers, let alone next 100.

It needs a visionary leader at the helm. I heard Musk might be available soon?

Yes, we have sailed the seven seas, saw the wonders of the world, enjoyed the tropical fruits, and basked in the warm sun. But now we are stuck in the horse latitudes on this vast ocean. No wind. No direction. No hope. All we can do now is wait for the horrific storm on the horizon to come and sink our ship. JI and his crew abandoned us long ago with the treasure and left JF lashed to the mast.

Very well put! Many of us understand that none of the decisions that have led us to this dismal point in GE's existence were the result of hourly employee input. All we can do is reconcile the fact that our jobs are in limbo along with our pensions. We shrug our shoulders ( the GE salute ) at the new ideas and pep talks from the kids that are in charge of collective fate. The ideas that keep us behind the 8 ball, and therums that have been dis-proven 20 years ago, but are going to work this time because of the fresh new degrees the "leaders" have, just make us smile. We have fought the good fight, and unfortunately lost against the machine that has turned out to be too big to fix. We have resigned ourselves to "ride the pony till it dies", in the hopes of a buy out or severance. So to the arrogant, smug, condescending, dual degree salaried employees, yes, you have worn us down. You have won. Like a conquering General riding into the city that you have destroyed, only to be surrounded by ruin, you have won. Yet, you do not posses the skill, nor the tenacity to rebuild what you have broken. You have won the right to rep your spoils.
