the best part about riding out the closing of the NYC office is LD our on maternity leave not making everyone miserable with her piss poor decisions and EV pretending to lead. laughable is the only word to describe our current situation.

Have to agree. the only reason nyc was kept open was because that bloated self important sack NF promised to and these morons in charge kept renewing the lease and the MSG tickets. NYC was useless for years and the g-- boy redesign did nothing to spark inspiration. now the puckered lip tool is stuck in EA hoping he can phone it in until retirement and find “pets” to do his work for him. truly pathetic.

There are plenty of great memories from over the years and a great deal of camaraderie amongst the employees at FP HQ

That’s ridiculously lame coming from any other campus at all...still, best of luck!

I for one am not sorry to see the NYC office close. Long overdue. too much complacency and too many sub standard employees from the top down churning out the same old crap year after year. no innovation. no passion.

now of course some impassioned whiny millennial or some yutz who can’t find a toy job in the tri state area is going to rage post a reply but be honest with yourselves: your leaders failed you and you kept your mouthed shut and collected a paycheck. your about as innovative as a dixie cup and a hell of a lot more useless. go find work elsewhere and quit the melodrama.

I miss the old days! Men could openly ogle and flirt with women. Half day Fridays, 2 week toy fairs in New York and Nuremberg at the best hotels! RD was head of licensing and spent sh*t loads of money. Always the best parties were hosted by RD. Travel to the European offices one or twice a year, building up the Brazil business Halloween Happenings, summer picnics, employees were gifted collectible dolls at Xmas or just because the CEO JB was feeling good that day! Oh...the good old days!!!!!!!

I’m in NYC, but I do still like a lot of the toys EA makes. Lots of slow moving processes up there, but lots of great people and toys still. For those who are old enough to remember the ‘good old days’, NYC had some great products too. Then, they forced everyone to ‘cost reduce the magic.’

FP toys were cool when they were made of wood. Back then they had the market cornered. For kids back then it was either play with FP stuff or bang on the floor with a wooden spoon.

I loved FP toys when I was a kid. Hopefully Mattel will go bankrupt before they can turn FP into a political statement.

SL is truly representative of what is wrong with Mattel Management. Ever failing upward, a hot potato no one wanted to have around. Incompetent, yet egotistical. Would talk down to experts.

Want to fix Mattel? NO ONE sits in a Manager's seat unless they can do the job their direct reports can do. They need the expertise and the ability to teach and lead those who report to them. No Director sits without being able to do all that their Managers do. No VP sits without being fully aware of the jobs of everyone below them.

Weed out the inept know-nothings and let's get Toy Designers leading Design, Toy Marketing Specialists Leading Marketing, and drive the bean counters into the sea. Cut 50% of the positions above Director. We don't need a VP, SR VP, and Exec VP of the same thing. One will do. The rest are window dressing. Expensive Window Dressing.

Yeah, things really did nosedive when SL was in charge.

The lower level fire caused by trader joe’s was a fun one. Smoke for days and the smell never left.

Sure, worked with some great people but over the years its soured greatly and it wasn't the people that we worked with it was the folks that were brought in from the west coast and the new processes that destroyed morale. Its not a question of working for mattel/fp, its been people trying to reinvent the wheel without the slightest idea that a wheel needs to be round to function properly.

Sure, especially if you’ve been around more than 5 years. It’s been progressively worse over the years, but 5-10 years ago, it was still a pretty great place to work. I’ve worked in seriously cold corporate environments, and we’re getting there...but the old days weren’t like that, at least in my experience.
