Thread regarding Williams Cos. layoffs

Everybody get ready

Managers have been asked to prepare a list of “who they can do without” across the system. Began before the stock suffered it’s big drop. The guess is not 600 like last time, but “targeted” to reduce in Houston/Pittsburgh and SLC offices primarily. Summer likely...

Williams must be in bad shape if they think they can run the company with college grads working for pizza. Because I don't know anyone with a family and options who would volunteer for constant layoffs and a kick out the door when they reach 55.

Nothing new, they have been doing this for years, seems like all big companies do it. They get it away with it, because people can be replaced fairly easily.

SLC Office mainly.

Dont know where it is coming from, I assumed it was from an employee who heard a rumor or maybe somebody made it up.

They hired a lot of people since 2016, so maybe they are looking to reduce head count again, don't know.

My guess is that they are going to reorganize, and terminate some, while they backfill and hire replacements.

They don't want to pay for medical costs and pension costs as well. Real nice. Good luck trying to make it as an older worker at Williams.

There is job security in know how, if you don't know more than the younger worker you will be terminated, sharing is great but because you know more than a younger worker is not a good reason to be terminated.

Older workers are usually more reliable than younger workers as well. Sounds like you are making up excuses to terminate the older workers to make room for the younger workers,

No doubt, you are correct. From what I have seen they will go after the older workers, sure a few will be retained, but it is a numbers game.

You have to be better than the younger workers which is tough to do, they have more energy. A lot of it is discrimination very common.

I am now considered one of the older ones I guess. I used to fear being targeted but what I see is the ones targeted are the ones not willing to adapt and change to new ways of working, hold on to data vs sharing it, or who still manage like tyrants and dictators. Sadly, the older we get the less likely we are to want to change and that may be why more are "targeted". Paying people that much money and they won't change is not a good recipe. Stay nimble and adaptable my friends. By the way, hard workers do not always equal good workers.

Good point about Share point, they don't even read that stuff, no matter how many accomplishments and money you saved the company. Never understood why they did that, almost like they enjoyed being cruel befor they got you with the ax.

Now they will have Williams employees depict there accomplishments in the SharePoint site, when they already know who they will layoff, ( older employees, individuals that are not part of the clique, but are performers, etc). Terrible company.

Making a point that a company where top VPs fires its employees, sometimes hire an "independent firm" to justify it. In reality it's a plot to keep the board happy to allow big salaries to continue for a select few, while others are thrown out to the sharks, that's the way it works. Does absolutely nothing good for the company.

What a rediculous statement, must be someone that pushes the Williams agenda.

Hire an "independent firm or consultant" to push your personal agenda.

A typical piece of sh_t company that promotes how wonderful they are to employees, Williams has no loyalty at all for hard work, fill of wannabes and cliques.

Quotas will be met, If you don't meet the critiera and they don't like you watch out. If it is like 2016 they will go big time after older workers, offering a waiver to avoid lawsuits. They don't want to pay medical and pension expenses, it's a numbers game. They will go after out of favor high salaried people as well. Nothing new.

Hopefully they release the correct individuals, not the ones that produce but do not fit in or go against the Williams grain.

Slc needs a lot of trimming, overloaded with sheep, snowflakes and dead wood. That office could benefit from dropping 600 on it own.

They are heartless. They make enough money to share it dedicated employees that have medical problems and are not top producers.

It's a shame that no one has ever hit this company with a class action suit, Williams is rotten to the core. It does matter how hard you work for this company.

Watch your back, especially if you are older and have medical issues.

If you have any type of medical problem you will be hit big time. Williams doesn't carry dead wood.
