Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Out of the blue

Did I miss something, or did the latest round of layoffs in marketing come rather announced?

There is always a lot of talk about layoffs here, but most of them focus on stores. This is why I think everybody was so shocked when it happened.

Was there any indication that this was coming that I might have missed?

Leadership just had their tribal meeting & came back claiming Bezos spoke & said he wants WFM to be unique and keep doing what makes it so. Then they immediately cut the remaining positions that are able to give each store a local flavor. For a few years now it's been a sh--show of upper management not listening to store level employees. Every store was literally designed differently so universal signage does not fit the fixtures from store to store. TMs are too busy and stressed to even notice when promo signs need to go out and no one wants to spend the time. They are getting a bargain w in house GAs and will now pay a premium for last minute sign corrections and outsourcing jobs that they took for granted. VP of marketing is from Wal Mart now Wfm will look like it- miserable employees and generic visuals. glory days are long gone.

The signs were there:

  1. Couldn't make custom signs without global approval

  2. Those booklets with photos of sign placement ( which we are already trained to know)

  3. Nearly everything autoshipped

  4. Less and less chalk work

I look forward to them scrambling to figure out how to sign stores with different fixtures. My store has very uniquely-sized endcap toppers.

Those in leadership positions have been told as far back as 5 years ago admin type positions would go away or change..also leadership and buyers were also part of that conversation. It will look like a typical grocery store when it is all done. Where department manager is really the buyer at the buyers pay.
