Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

Any new on March layoffs?

There was so much talk about March layoffs at BB&B, but apart from somebody saying there would be some this week (if I'm not mistaken, there were none,) all talk of it died down.

Do we know what's actually going on? Will there be a round of layoffs this month? Or can we write that off as a false rumor?

I second the Toys R Us thoughts, their liquidation is a win-win for BBB.

If Toys R Us shutters all of its stores (this would include Babies R Us) I wouldn’t expect to see any layoffs this year. As District staff I can tell you Regionals and Corporate are watching this closely and waiting to make the next move based on whether or not buybuyBaby loses its competition. This definitely has the potential to change things that would affect stock prices, in turn dropping the potential for further layoffs within the Company.

These latest rumors are indeed becoming laughable, about as insane as the private equity buyer that was to grab up BBB after the holiday shopping season. How'd that work out?

Who exactly is making these decisions about who gets laid off if all this is true? What levels are affected? Half expecting to get to April and have the new messages say oh well it must be planned for May now. And on and on.

No it’s not false rumors the layoffs are coming in April. March was not the right time had to get things done after inventory with backup freight , etc. the packets are already done, and they wanted people to take vacation do they won’t owe them any.

BBB is naughty, we know that at Union, keeping my head down.

My source still claims no layoffs in March, DM and RM were here recently, schedules intact for EVERYONE is more likely due to the earliest opportunity for any layoffs is April with the quarterly results, absolutely no hints of anything at this time. I would look to April.

All of the Department Managers who were laid off were also included in the schedule weeks ahead of time when they got laid off. Being on the schedule means nothing, layoffs can happen at any time if they do happen.

I hate to be a "Negative Nelly", I'm just a realist. There have been warnings and clues... The writing is on the wall, and best to brace yourselves for any upcoming changes. There's a constant musical chairs game that DMs and RMs love to play with SMs, seniors, and Dept supervisors, so change is a constant with this company.

I'm holding on for now, but I'm expecting the worst and hoping for the best. From what I've heard, maybe getting laid off isn't such a bad thing. Severance + getting paid out for your remaining PTO, plus un employment $$$? I would just take it as a free vacation. Lol

Our OPS manager has left on a well-deserved vacation for nearly two weeks, absolutely no signs of March Madness. April maybe? We'll know soon enough.

I am fairly new to BBB. From what I can see in Corp is old ideas from people who don’t want or feel the need to change. MF started as a stock boy at 16 and is proud of this. Retail is changing moment to moment. Don’t cut your hard working store folks. Look at the leaders, new ideas, fresh blood. I already have my resume out there. They need a real reality check .

My managers went for training at corporate this week for the new registers. They are rolling out in April. If there are cuts who will train. Also my ops was complaining about the new donation procedures saying now they have a reason to fire the seniors. Sounds like lots of changes.

My source claims April, to coincide with earnings. I can tell you that THE FORCE has schedules intact looking out two weeks in our store on the West Coast. Whatever, if anything, happens, I'm not feeling March for any theatrics.
