Thread regarding PepsiCo Inc. (Pepsi) layoffs

We deserve this

In reading all these threads, it makes me realize that we as a company deserve this. On one hand we have people screaming “sue!” And “unions!” And “call the press!”. How about you get off your a-- and add value to the company? On the other hand you have jackasses who have somehow think we can hide in our own little world, not engage the “dirty barbarians” in other parts of the world, and still be successful as a company. The reality is yeah, both types should be scared because you are who they’re targeting. Both possess some unearned feeling of entitlement that the company or the world owes you something. It doesn’t.

Here’s a hint... layoffs are slated at 10%. Take out of that number any roles that they didn’t fill anticipating this very action, and you have about a 5% layoff. It will almost certainly be accompanied by a significant reorg or realignment. That said, I’ve been through many of these, several times as an insider on the other side of the list. They arent using this as a hit list for folks they don’t like. They are primarily using it to clear out the low performers and people that don’t have any interest in adapting to 21st century realities. I seldom see even middle of the road people impacted, especially below B1. And the banded folks are held to a higher standard, expected to drive forward the company agenda not just show up. If you are not doing that as a company leader you are not performing, regardless if you agree or disagree with the path the executives have charted. So good riddance. See you Monday, feb 19. Or maybe not.

The layoffs are part of the HR Smart Spending goals in reducing pension liabilities. Folks that still have a pension are the ones at higher risk than those folks hired after 2010 with no pensions.

When was the last time you heard of someone from the bottom 10% of performers being popped outside of a layoff? Fairly rare. So instead of culling the chaff a little bit each quarter, they wait and do it every three to four years and freak everyone out. That’s a management problem in its own right.

The good performers we lose will be in the field when/if they collapse regions and those folks have nowhere to go. It’s always been that way.

Indra.... Is that you? Come on guys. We all know how this goes. We will lose some under performing employees while others will somehow survive. We will lose some outstanding employees that will shock us. No matter which side of the fence you sit on, prepare yourselves. Employees are expensive and we would all be replaced by cheaper options tomorrow if it would not create such a huge outrage. There’s no such thing as loyalty anymore; not from employees and not from businesses. Sorry to say, but that’s just the way it is. I still say it’s time to replace Indra. Not because of layoffs. I want her out because she’s doing nothing to grow the business and being paid very very well for it. There’s your underperforming employee to get rid of.

Well you sound like the compliant worker bee that pepsi loves, by all means stay in your paradise.

For many of us we had already checked the boxes over the years and were told to just work a little harder cause that promotion is DEFINITELY coming soon.

Then the next year would come and 'oops, well the business isn't doing so hot, no promotions!'

Then another year comes and 'well you just have to do Z now, in addition to A to X'

Then 'But your 2% raise is really really good! Trust me!'

If you like being treated like an idiot this is the place to be.

I sleep soundly, but I know if I've had s-x during the night. Nobody's going to tell me I had s-x when I really didn't.

Go some place else and get that 25%+ bump.

Glad I got out, just checking these boards cause some old friends were talking about a layoff.
