Employee Engagement Survey

Just wondering if everyone is being 100% honest on there surveys. The people in my group were brutally honest this year about upper management and the way the lower people are treated. Just wondered if this was the way everyone commented on the survey.

Once again, the bottom feeding managers come up as a huge source of the problem.

It's extremely disheartening to read what the previous person posted. It's never a good feeling to dedicate your life to a company, try your best to make the company successful, look for ways to improve things, and then be told to keep it to yourself and basically to just drink the koolaid.

Very sorry to hear that you were treated that way. Especially when low level managers keep posting on this forum how people need to work harder and quit complaining. They don't know anything about management but what they've read in Dr Phil's best sellers.

I for one know that the CEO does not want to hear the truth ... you speak openly and honest and you will get slapped down, told you need to not post your concerns, etc etc...and this is a fact! I personally tried to bring up concerns not only for myself but for many co-workers and was told if I wasn’t rated as an exceptional employee I would have been placed on the chopping block...since that was relayed to me and Due to the constant turmoil, all my enthusiasm was knocked out of me...I was trying to legitimately bring up concerns and bottom line is they don’t want to hear it...so I decided to leave on my own will...I will not be threatened and/or treated like this after dedicating close to 30 years of service...and yes I do know the value of our customers, internal and external something our upper management don’t understand!

Managers tend to go around and hound employees to take the survey and they do put a lot of pressure on making people take it. It does seem like there is more emphasis on a manager having a higher percentage of employees taking it than there is emphasis on what the employees are saying in them.

But what happens if an employees tells a manager that they don't want to take it? Is there really supposed to be a repurcussion aside from getting the black ball? That's one of the main contributing factors as to why it's worthless. Aside from the fact that it's hard to be honest and still get invited to go out drinking as a buddy and remain a member of the club.

Well here is the word directly from a Windstream employee...the results are definitely bogus...she marked excellent on everything because of the repercussions...she said on questions that don’t apply to them they use to mark their answers with a N/A...after being told that those responses counted as negative they are now marking those as excellent as well...I for one just stopped being part of this bogus nonsense survey...if you can’t be honest and try to improve the company, I will not partake. I have morals that won’t allow me to be so dishonest!

Totally agree with checking into the managers at Windstream...I know for a fact that employees are not treated equally and the good ole boy network exists. I am no longer with Windstream and chose to leave on my own will after 30 years. If you are female and not part of the good ole boy network you have a double edge sword...you will never be treated and respected for your dedication and hard work. The surveys are totally worthless and I have never seen one of their so called action plans actually work or followed through...good luck ex co-workers and yes there is life other than Windstream.

If you think your survey means something you’re sadly mistaken. It doesn’t matter what you say what matters is that you take it. The goal is having as many employees take it as possible. This shows engagement and the higher number of employees taking it makes Windstream looks better . You would make more of a statement by not taking the survey.

@2Strong this is nothing new. Nepotism is high in Windstream. Perfectly capable employees with excellent performance are looked over in favor of the old high school friends or the outside work drinking buddies. Will always be this way.

@2Strong I know you can't give the name of your manager but please provide your department and I will look into it.

Upper Management

My manager is a racist A-hole who comes in every morning and talks nonstop about sports. I'm a huge sports fan myself but when I get slammed all day with tickets and minimal support, I think my manager needs to be coming in figuring out how to help the team.

Then he spends his day planning on where he and the team lead are going for lunch. Not to mention how recruiters stop by, take them to lunch, give them gifts, and take them out for drinks. Maybe that's why our team s---s so bad. The managers hire based off of an obligation to the fine recruiters who do things for them. It's just a mind game and these simple managers lost.

I can't go to middle management because they play into it to. They see what's going on because they are a part of it. They use Christmas as an excuse to accept these gifts and swap favors. There is nobody to go to about it and you certainly can't report these types of things in the survey.

The survey is not anonymous, so I don't fill them out any more.

Taking these surveys is a real joke...many individuals are not saying what is truly on their minds due to their respective managers getting upset when the results are negative. I have taken these surveys for several years ... stating issues that have driven morale in the toilet...our managers are to come up with an action plan to rectify areas of concern...this does NOT happen. They give it lip service but NO action plans in place...they don’t value nor care about an employees concerns; therefore these surveys are totally useless!

When I worked there I took the survey on my home computer. Certain people in management would use the monitoring system to watch their employees take surveys. Those who said anything negative were among the first laid off or let go for any other reason they could find. Trust no one.

They can easily figure out who has submitted what, especially if you are in a small group. When I was employed there I counted over a dozen different surveys in a 12 month span - nothing positive ever resulted from any of them - just an action plan that you had to followup on. I found it easier to just lie and be left alone.

Our management bullies their employees into completing the survey. Nobody believes theirs any anonymity involved when you have your own link you cannot share. If you’re on a small team, it’s easy to differentiate character from what they’ve written.

The closest thing to work my manager does is sort his bags of fruit snacks into colored piles then stuffs his face. Sometimes he takes the time to delegate an issue to me then walks around making jokes and laughing annoyingly. Do you think my manager really cares how I feel day to day? I don't even know why we still waste the time filling these surveys out. They are going to keep the same crappy managers and push the senior techs out the door.

Will be quite interesting to see how upper management spins on the results. Will most likely be the usual scripted lines.

I have wondered too weather the surveys were truly “anonymous “ if they are not my whole department will likely be let go this coming year. Moral is so low, I used to enjoy coming into work each day. Now I wonder if there will be a pad lock on the doors when I get there in the morning. Complete shame we have become this shell of a company. But the higher ups still have their golden parachutes that the rest of us will never have. They should all be arrested and put in prison for what they have done to this company.

I practically skipped in the building on survey day to unload how miserable the place is. It won’t accomplish anything but it felt good to cleanse my palate of the funk. Too bad leadership can’t right the ship. Once upon a time it was a nice place to work.

Mine was so brutally honest (like the ones before) that I wonder if they know it was me or if they would retaliate knowing it's me?

I would just say that when my work group was brutally honest all we got out of it was a meeting with the higher ups to tell us why our opinions were wrong. If they spent the time and effort on keeping customers happy that they do on the survey we would all be a lot better off.
