You are FIRED!
I do not currently work for CGG, but had a similar experience with a former employer a few years ago. I submitted my 2 week resignation letter, via email, to the HR manager, following the personnel handbook. I then forwarded the email to my personal email account for my own record. Later that day, I emailed the same worded resignation letter to my manager. He came to my office and told me to get my personal items and immediately leave and I would not be receiving 2 weeks notice pay. He was basically firing me on the spot. I emailed HR manager of the situation with a follow-up phone call. The manager did not know that I had contacted HR with my resignation letter. The HR manager calls him for a brief meeting. He comes back to my office and meekly apologizes to me for everything he said to me and my employment reputation with that company is perserved for any future references. I hope this explanation answers your question and provides some kind of helpful guidance. Of course, a voluntary quit is not the same as a layoff.
Would you be so go as to clarify.
