Thread regarding Advance Auto Parts Inc. layoffs

Sales are still down, time for plan B! Or is it C?

Let's cut even more hours!

My store is pretty much down to 2 people at any given time. Can't even take a lunch. This is totally against the labor laws.

Why prices going up at Advance? Rock Auto and Amazon are cheaper.

Competition selling for less.

That article just came out on bloomberg also https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-08-16/amazon-looms-over-icahn-and-starboard-s-auto-parts-retailer-bets

DIY sales will continue to struggle because cars will be harder to work on they they are now and also the price/Amazon effect taking more sales from the brick n mortar stores. More older cars on the roads means they stand the chance of needing repairs/parts as they break down from wear and tear. Might be more the commercial side than the retail side that benefits from an increased age in cars when auto sales go down because the newer cars are more and more difficult to work on for your average DIY customer.

Well that is actually true but the auto industry is anticipating that for next year and beyond and not now in 2017, which is why they are struggling these past 2-3 years in addition to other factors happening at the same time. It goes in cycles and you would know that if you worked in the industry.

School up...here's a good article for you to read to understand better before you post what sounds silly.

Note what investors are hoping for...

"With the average age of vehicles on American roads approaching 12 years, investors also are betting an older vehicle fleet will mean more repairs and parts replacement. "

Poor people have to drive too. They're not paying people to do the work for them, they do it themselves. I think you're also ignoring that AMZN and RockAuto have obtained large market share that used to belong to the major aftermarket retailers, not some mythical economic farce. That is loony!

Another note, AAP's fastest growing segment for the past few years have been Hispanic customers and female DIY types. Maybe AAP should cater to those more...and try to continue to grow their historic customer base, they can't because they don't think.

But..but....a guy here said that when new car sales drop, auto parts sales rise cause people are keeping their cars longer.

LOL! Guess another bowl of corporate Kool Aid bites the dust. And really, how dumb do you have to be to believe that tanking car sales is good for auto parts business?

Seriously.
