Pearson Layoffs January & March of 2016

Pearson will or has announced that there will be layoffs at the end of January 2016 and March of 2016.

Pearson is moving heavy into an offshore model and outsourcing to Accenture etc.. to cut costs.

There is a constant exodus of good technical and business knowledge as this company makes the transition.

In response to the comment about the LSCs: That group is spearheading an initiative that is the organization's only chance at making goal in the next year. I doubt they are going anywhere.

They actually got rid of the old school publishing types who knew and understood the value of content. You can have all the platforms in the world but if your content sucks no one will buy it. The publishing types here have had vision and saw where the industry was growing through workshops and forums that invited professors and educators, who gave their input how their students were learning. This is how our division came up with a modular approach to help the current student learn better, and it's been working. Our division was always on the forefront of education. With so many let go I don't know how we are going to continue do that. At the top they are hiring people with no experience in education. How is that going to work?

Layoffs are being confirmed in the Higher Ed tech organization in Boston, Chandler, Denver and spans the developers, QA, and UX. In Hoboken, many of the production project managers are being laid off. Editorial assistants are also being let go.

They are laying off entire divisions in the US without any regard for how the products are going to be supported. Our entire product organization got the axe - the severance is the industry standard 30 days notice and 2 weeks for each year of service.

Our senior sales people are in despair about how they are going to sell and support online learning software without any product people

How is upper (or any) management not getting laid off or restructured? Management and a few of the divisions in North America HigherEd in general (the LSC group) is a JOKE. Not to mentioned they are way overpaid and over bonused for sitting at home and being of no support to the reps. What a joke.

Round 1 of layoff's at Pearson began on Tuesday 1/26/2016 and will extent through Wednesday 1/27/2016.

The next round is scheduled for in March 2016

The RIF is across the board.

On the upper management side they shook the wire and the birds flew off and land back in a different order. Same old ! The definition of insanity.

Keep doing the same thing over and over you get the same results

Good Luck Pearson !!!

501 Boylston, Boston:

4 weeks notice. Work in the office or remotely during that period then turn in your laptop and badge.

Two weeks severance package per year, up to six months of severance given out.

No management, not even entry or middle, reportedly to be hit this round. Unbelievable.

First round of layoffs happens today. Entire groups were canned, including book product and project managers'; seems they're getting rid of all book related functions.

I was laid off too, though I was in a different group. It seems they're giving most everyone 30 days notice and. 2 weeks severance per full year worked. Accounts have already been deactivated.

There will be more layoffs throughout the week.

Axe falling in Boston today, word spreading of layoffs on the 7th and 8th floors of 501 Bolyston

Probably no management cuts as the company continues to be top heavy despite promising to reduce complexity and hierarchy

Announcement today that the Bonus payment due to be paid in March for2015 results will not be paid as the Company didn't reach the profits the CEO had promised the shareholders. Pay award for 2016 is 1% for staff earning less than £95,000 and nothing for those earning above this. The workers (including me) are wondering what happened to the money received from the sale of both the FT and The Economist. Seems like there needs to be a clear out at the top end of the Company as the lower paid workforce have worked our socks off to meet all the altered deadlines and reduced budgest during the year with just a couple of pounds a week to show for it!

My former husband, an extremely smart man who was a business manager at Pearson, just lost his job. He had done an excellent job for Pearson for 15 years. It's unfortunate that after a new CEO took over, things went in the tank. Perhaps he needs to be "laid off" too.

They are trying to play up that they are an Educational Technology company but ask ask them their plan for Learning Studio. You won't get an answer because there is no plan unless letting it die on the vine IS their plan.

You are correct, it's going to die on the vine:

Hi everyone,

After careful consideration, we have decided to retire LearningStudio and focus more on other areas where we can make a bigger impact on learning outcomes.

Fallon underestimated the time and effort to turn around an aging battleship.

Upper management should be canned as they're incompetent book people struggling to be techies.

I've heard 3000 global layoffs by end of January.

Also announced this week:

Print Manufacturing (print buyers, managers etc), book warehouse (HR, finance, etc), paper related positions have been outsourced to RR Donnelly. Those Pearson employees are now RRD employees supposedly with less benefits.

Speaking as one of those recently let go by Pearson, no solid intell on when/where layoffs are coming but don't be surprised when they do. Word had their North American Higher Ed sales (a huge part of Pearson's revenue) suffered badly in '15. They are trying to play up that they are an Educational Technology company but ask ask them their plan for Learning Studio. You won't get an answer because there is no plan unless letting it die on the vine IS their plan. Educational Technology company, run by old school Publishing types....it will be interesting to see how 2016 plays out....

Good luck with your interview, but why do you think they're actually hiring? The last thing I heard was they had an almost company-wide hiring freeze. The only reason they have job postings listed is because it makes the company look good and if they find a star during the interview process then great.

I'd ask yourself if you really want to start a job/career at a place that has endlessly restructured and laid off a few thousand employees over the last several years... my 2 cents - food for thought.

With all of these layoffs, why is Pearson still posting and hiring for positions? I had an interview last month for a job with Peason and would be reluctant to accept it should I be selected as the candidate.
