Preparing For The Next Recession

Battling out in this "supposed" anonymous forum is a pointless activity ... please save yourself from next recession.

Contractors and part time employees will be cut first, because they are the cheapest to let go (and the least likely to litigate). After that there will be severance packages and voluntary separations, aimed primarily at those people that the company’d like to at least keep goodwill with (potentially to rehire them when the economy improves). The severance package phase is usually short (and in general is a good deal if you can get it) as subsequent cuts usually will be involuntary and uncompensated.

Company already talked about Nordstrom’s in last town hall. We can’t stop them from doing it, they are just accepting packages. No big deal.

We work with google but the don’t have a retails presence like AMZ or MCY.. I’m wondering if they make a partnership with us.

If you are in retail you can not "Hide" from the Global Recession on the horizon. This is going to impact everyone. Macy's is trying to survive like everyone else by cutting costs. Kroger announced yesterday they are laying off hundreds of employees. The best recommendation I have is be prepared. If you are in the Tech sector of this company your chance of holding your job is very slim. Nothing you can do or say at this pint will matter. Best to put your energy into accepting the circumstance and start looking for another job.

Google is already in retail and working with Macy’s. Unless the cto has squashed that... wouldn’t be surprised.

Looks like they’re partnering with Nordstrom. Why did I have to find this out from a news article and not Macy’s itself? Typical.

The company will never work with Amazon again. Made that mistake once. Maybe we get lucky and Google wants to get into retail.

There should be service locations in place of shuttered stores to prevent losing too many customers. I’m not sure why Macy’s isn’t doing this. Sure, it’ll take some amount to open the location, but it’d be run on a fraction of the original store expenses. If I’m unable to return items to a store, im less likely to purchase online.

An intelligent post. Something will likely occur after holiday as you don’t want to risk disruption to that key time but some people will likely already know. I’d watch out for the loss of a cluster of leaders in the same area.
