Thread regarding Kroger Co. layoffs

Management Layoffs are Happening at Kroger (October 2019)

All Kroger folks with upper mgmt titles were told at the same time that they might not have their job next week, they know it…

They will inform the managers that are being downgraded and demoted, and they will tell it to the ones who are being laid off from Kroger on Friday.

At this point, nobody is safe – period. This is both good and bad. We’ll lose some bad managers which is desperately needed but some good managers will be affected too. That’s bad for Kroger, Kroger’s customers and employees alike.

Happening in kingsoopers Denver division. Started yesterday , all store managers have to go to a certain location to find out whether they have their job or not. Selected ASM have received an invite to find out if they have their job. Every store has a dark cloud over it right now with uncertainty and sadness. Devastating that a company that you have worked so hard for to treat you like you're nothing, no value. Praying for everyone affected.

From what I have heard, Fred Meyer is Firing managers. Not laying them off, they are being let go in volumes. Started on Monday and the firing event is going through tomorrow. They are being told the store is being restructured, given a severance package, and there is no room to negotiate.

Mid-Atlantic division began mass layoffs yesterday. I cannot describe how heavy my heart was while watching good people learn their fate with the company. It was everything I could do to stay at work through the day.. I had a Co Mgr. crying on my shoulder at one point because she had just started with the company and has several children to support as a single mother, and in a moment's notice she realized she had no job. My heart broke for her. Today I have a knot in my stomach as I go from store to store seeing the look of confusion and broken spirits everywhere I turn..

Why is Kroger going down the same path as Safeway did? First they rolled out ridiculous processes and programs that paralyzed the store managers from running their stores and now massive layoffs? Short term solution for a poor business plan. Mc Mullen needs to go!

The people who run Kroger are so clueless that it’s absurd. They take over start changing policies and the sales drop. Instead of reacting to the failed policies they make more absurd, useless and failed policies. When these new policies drive sales even more downward, it’s the employee’s fault for not following their stupid plan. I have seen a manager get reamed for using OT when 3 people on stock crew called in. It’s ridiculous and Kroger will not exist in 5 years with this group running things.....

Kinda crazy they have 25 new LE1 managers going through ATL Division right now but are about to layoff 100s... Given 10 plus years to this company and missed so much with family, yet have always promoted Kroger... jokes on me....

Kroger is such a soul s—ing company! You work you a** off for nothing! You do everything your DM tells you to do and he comes back and he don’t like what he told you to do! They ABSOLUTELY DO NOT CARE FOR THEIR EMPLOYEES! I worked at a store where Rodney McMullen himself came in to do a video in MY DEPARTMENT and then walked off and never said a word to me, but yet treats his employees good! I would NEVER EVER EVER recommend Kroger for ANYONE to work at! If you have a family life outside of Kroger you might as well forget that, you never get to spend time with your family! My marriage is going downhill because of this company and they don’t seem to care at all!

On post deletions, someone posted this a couple of days ago, source below:

I've been on this site since 2015 (first with Verizon and now with GM) so hear me out:

| mods/admins exist, they are silent tho

| they delete messages, sometimes in bulk (eg all threads or all messages you ever posted by you or someone else may be nuked)

| they block ip addresses, some vpns will not work as they are already blocked

| some words are blocked and trigger reviews, try to enter xes in reverse and they'll review you

| here are things that will trigger a review, purge or block: swearing, use of names, politics, attacking other people

| got blocked once, never heard back from them and had to switch ip

| if someone is crossing the line you can report it on the contact page

| dont post in weird threads, they may bulk block you (if you do, use vpn)

| they really cannot stop you posting, use a vpn and you are ok - if you are using a vpn, dont use bing ones like nordVPN as they have them blocked - pick a smaller providedr

| try to avoid any discussion about race or identity groups, they dont f around with that - that's like an instant ban and all your older messages get deleted

i am sure there is more stuff that i am forgetting but this is it in the nutshell...

Kroger is a TERRIBLE company to work for. It is not surprising at this point that they would do something like this.
The Union is useless, you pay Union fees for "protection" but the only thing they are protecting is themselves.
Management doesn't know what they are doing. Corporate doesn't know what they want.
They change rules every week, don't follow the rules, but SOMETIMES do follow the rules and make everyone confused after they write people up for not doing something.
For example, I was yelled at in full view of customers for around 7 minutes and it sent me into such a bad panic attack I had to leave and almost landed me in the emergency.
"Uplift Uplift Uplift"
The only thing they are uplifting, is their own wages, and the employees lack of will to live.

I worked at Kroger for 11 years (17 months as a store Co-manager). For many years, while I worked as an office helper/ACSM on the Front End (a member of the UFCW union), I enjoyed my job at Kroger very much; I loved my store and my colleagues. After graduating from college, I drank the Kool-Aid and applied to the MD1 program (the runner you have to go through to become a Co-Manager). It was the WORST decision of my life; words cannot describe how truly awful/mentally-taxing/unreasonably demanding/anxiety-inducing/soul-shattering it is to be a Co-Manager (I had an absolutely fantastic store manager and it was STILL ungodly terrible). My heart bleeds for all of you, as I know what you have to give up to be a SM/Co-manager: forget holidays, weekends, or any regularity in your schedule/work-life balance. Forget birthday parties or weddings or funerals or your child's school events. I cannot tell you how many times a 9-hour shift becomes a 12/13/14 hour shift when you work for Kroger, how many times you're made to feel like you're a surgeon on call 24/7 at the company's every whim or beckoning (you know, despite the fact that you're NOT a surgeon...you're a person who manages other people putting round cans on square shelves at a GROCERY store, not a HOSPITAL). People who have given their all at great personal expense for decades are being let go with as little as 9 months severance, and it's just an atrocity. I am appalled. Dedicated, proficient, loyal managers who trained me while I was a ACSM/ASM have been tossed to the wind with a measly 24 or 48-hour notice. Kroger, you are merciless and greedy (GREEDY!), you take take take take TAKE from your employees' lives and expect undivided obedience and around-the-clock availability...and this is how you reward people for their years of service? My spouse still works for Kroger and has invested 16 years into her career...and I HOPE Kroger lets her go, because at this point, it would be a blessing in disguise. Kroger, shame on you. Seriously: Shame. On. You.

My heart hurts for my husband right now. He has given his entire life since he was just out of high school to this company. He missed birthdays, holidays, soccer games, family dinners and vacations in order to give his all to his job and provide for his family. Kroger is never satisfied. They just keep pushing for more. Taking hours away from the store, taking managers away from the store... expecting management to work well over their required 50 hours a week but then wanting to pay them the least amount of money possible for it. Threatening their jobs for reasons that the managers themselves can't even help. Honestly, this company has been going down hill for a long time. Stop letting a job steal your life and your families away from you. In the end, everyone is expendable to them. If I were the ones not getting laid off during this "re-structure" I would for sure still be looking for another career. The months to come are just going to be Kroger asking you to make up for the work of all those loyal employees they just let go and giving you nothing in return for it except the "privilege" of still having a job. Find something that allows you to spend time with your loved ones while you can. Find a job that's just a job and not a thief of your skills, hard work, and time. My husband has not gotten the call yet, but you can be sure that he is making calls of his own.

Why in the world would ANYONE want to go into store management? This is the kind of stuff that makes someone like me, with 18 years at the company, want to search for another job. Kroger treats upper management like c-ap and it makes my job as a dept head seem like a chore more than anything! Good luck to everyone going through this nonsense.

Everyone who got laid off, apply at Lowe's! They are hiring in cities around and in Cincinnati, along with most other stores. The economy is not collapsing, the job market it hot and most businesses can't find employees. Start hunting for a job and I think you will find many openings! Once again Lowe's is hiring and is not union, so you can show your talents to move up!

Layoffs happen all the time. The company has offered severance pay to those, who were let go. It’s not personal. The company is going through change. It owes its employees a paycheck at the end of each pay period. That’s all. It owes them nothing else! Think about it...
Oh, and for those thinking I am am a by stander, you are wrong. I am supposed to call my DM today. Whatever will be, will be. Can’t control it. Accept and move on!

It was really uplifting of our frys division president to send a vague generalized statement about everyone's livelihood. Like our families lives should be vaguely disregarded as not being very important while you open your worthless downtown store to glamorize your social status
I wish you and your bosses the worst well being and I hope you sleep at night thinking about all the families lives you have affected by not living our purpose or core values
What a lie!!!!! Sleep well!
"Our people are great"
"I get what I want plus more"
Supposed Core Values;
Honesty Integrity Inclusion Respect Diversity Safety

In my opinion , Kroger is a very dishonest company. Loyal employees mean nothing to the company and the union is not worthy either. Underhanded and intentionally keeping the employee from achieving goals and their earned pay is stealing from them. Very sad. Just another company with no Values

Layoffs are happening here in the Atlanta division. Rumors around 180+ managers will be let go. Very sad. Greed has taken over. Best wishes to everyone going through this with us. It breaks my heart to watch people we work with everyday no longer have a job. This will ruin so many lives.
