Thread regarding Sears layoffs

The Last 30 Days.....

So, this is what the media/government calls a "Booming, Best Ever Economy in America!" Layoffs ONLY IN THE LAST 30 DAYS, and for every layoff reported publicly, at least 10 happen quietly or without media attention.

Major layoffs have been going on for a year or two, but until it happens to you personally, you think everything is wonderful. Well kids, It ain't and this list proves it.

Bayer 12,000

This list doesn't include the constant bleeding of major corporations like Sears itself, Oracle, Intel, Qualcomm, and dozens more that see a dozen here, a dozen there go every week or two in order to fly under the radar and avoid media attention.

The housing market is rolling over, as is the auto sector, and if tens of thousands of layoffs in the past 30 days isn't enough proof for you, then maybe the downturn of America's two biggest industries might get your attention.

Denial will not stop this or pay your bills. Seeing the train coming and getting out of the way will though. Stop buying stupid stuff, stop trading in your car for a new one every 3-5 years. Those who prepare now will be extremely glad they did.

@rde Yeah right. This isn't 1980. Most debt for people these days is found in two things. Their college loans and their car debt. Unlike Baby Boomers, who could find a good job with a high school education, a 3.0 GPA in electrical engineering from a good university doesn't guarantee you a high paying job anymore. Most people go to college. Most people have auto loans. The average graduate starts out with $30,000 in debt. And unlike the old days, you can't work your way through high school in college anymore because minimum wage doesn't support your college education and car payment anymore. America was ruined by your generation who borrowed our nation into poverty. It's our generation that's paying the dues.

"Stop buying stupid stuff, stop trading in your car for a new one every 3-5 years" Ever heard of a self-fullfilling prophecy? This is a textbook example of one. If everyone stopped buying stupid things and trading in cars for new ones, that would cause an economic collapse.

Fewer rolls of 3-ply toilet paper at Walmart this week. I know why too. #Impeach

Exactly, this trend will continue as states and cities require "livable" wage increases. You will see less and less humans taking your orders and bagging your groceries. Corporations will gladly increase these wages and then eliminate as many positions to get back to normal. With todays technology there is no reason why I have to see/speak with any employee during my shopping trip to Target, Walmart or local grocery store. Just look around, we are choosing, scanning and bagging so much of our own products. I can seriously see 90% of our minimum wage workers being eliminated in the next 10-20 years.

Things would have really gone down the tubes if Hillary Bengazi Clinton had won the Presidency.

A great many layoffs occur due to automation. This trend will continue and accelerate as artificial intelligence increases it's capabilities to "relieve" humans of workplace burdens. But Ai will infiltrate our lives in a dizzying array of other means as well. It will be no less than a revolution.

Probably because the Unemployment rate is at the lowest it's been since 1969. Stop wasting your time at Sears. There's jobs out there.
