I have great qualifications, and have worked with Windstream for many years. I have a college degree from a good university, and by that I do not mean something like University of Phoenix online. I have applied outside the company, and I have interviewed with other companies. I went in one, thought the interview went great, and then received an email from the manager saying that I did not have enough experience. I felt that based on qualifications asked I did meet the experience required. It is hard out there when you send out your resume, and you meet the qualifications and exceed them, go to the interview, and then get told by someone five years younger than you that you do not have enough experience. In my mind I felt like saying I have been doing your same position before you even graduated college. Have any of you had that experience? I get upset because I feel like I will be with Windstream forever in my department, and never progress my way up despite how hard I work with this company. I hate being so negative, but it just seems that after awhile you have to be. Please let me know if you all have had the same experience.

I just left for a real company the grass is greener I promise. Get out
Doesn't matter where you received your degree from, companies want to know if you can do the job and learn skills for the job. That means you continue to learn newer skills, don't fall back on a skill from a 20 year old system as job security. If you don't change with the times, you will be left behind and have no one else to blame but yourself.
Windstream on your resume is actually hurting you. Hiring companies in the industry don’t understand why anyone would still be at Windstream . Companies think all the great and good talent has left Windstream.
I promise you, TT will get you out of there soon.
I went through the same thing when I was laid off when I was in my mid 50's. I am a well qualified Mechanical Engineer, and I can tell you that companies work hard to shed older workers and are reluctant to hire them. My company went through several different layoff, and I know of no engineer who was laid off getting a job offer. all eventually just retired. This was several years ago, and now supposedly the market needs workers, but I a guessing that the workers they "need" are young, inexperienced, and willing to work for low wages.
None of this should come as a surprise to anyone. How many of you work for a company where HR commonly makes statements like "we need to get younger", or "we need to hire more minorities"? One of my favorites is when HR came out and said that they needed to hire more Latino engineers, why? Why not the best, or most qualified engineers? Unions have long understood this, but are sadly losing ground these days and our middle class is dying. I am lucky in that I could stand to retire, and my wife is younger and still employed.
Hard out there
