Thread regarding Belk layoffs

One Belk all the Way

So checked Reflexis to see what the Thanksgiving schedule is. They're not even giving everyone the morning to spend Thanksgiving with their families. I suppose Belk thinks that because of the pandemic people will be doing nothing, and we all should kiss the tips of Harper's shoes for even having a job. I know the store has been open on Thanksgiving evening for ages. I get that. But the store is closed and they still want folks to come in and do fulfillment for curbside. It's bs, not just for this company but for every single retailer who is doing it this year. It has been a long, tough year for all of us and I think we deserve a break, a time to be really be thankful for friends, family, good health and making it this far. If nothing more, how about a day to just take a breath and not be concerned with work?
Im glad to have a job, no doubt. However, every single friggin Belk executive, Harper down, better be pulling orders on November 26. That's all I gotta say.

We were told they won’t even be giving us anything to eat on Thanksgiving. I work 6-2, not like our food court is open to get anything. Which in the past, all they’ve done is give us snacks anyway and I hear that other stores have big meals catered. This place is so ridiculous.

Up 'till 1984 and when family-owned, Belk used to close at a reasonable hour in the evening, and all day on Sundays. The odd Christmas sale was called Moonlight Madness, where the store might re-open in the evening from, say, 9pm-12am for a night in December-ish, and it was an energetic, yet anticipated with a relaxed approach.

Now, it's do-it-all-for-a-buck, to hell with employees, they are a number and expendable so treat 'em like c-ap and move on.

Sad part is lots of places are like that, even c-appy government jobs like DHEC, where they throw open bags of infected waste in vans and make people drive them to remote locations and toss them in regular dumpsters. Health Department, my foot. More like Un-Healthy Department!

The revolving door employment model never stops in the Gov' sector, let alone c-appy retail jobs, where the owners act like they are royal gods and the atmosphere is always like: don't let us catch you enjoying anything or talking or laughing because these manufactured products are soooo serious and you will be terminated (Say it like Arnold for effect!) and ruined and NEVER be able to work another register and make 8 whole dollars an hour!

Nah, I'm not bitter! LOL

That is so deeply unethical. So many companies posted they will be closed this year on Thanksgiving and explicitly said employees will have the day off to spend to spend time with families.

Belk isn't a leader opening that day and making employees work before the store opens. It is a craven money grubbing desperate coward.

Im sure it will be changed shortly. We're not allowed to have lives outside of working at Belk. We're expected to check Reflexis multiple times a day. But if you need some time off you have to request it three weeks in advance.

At least you already have your schedule. At my store they don’t release the official schedule until two days before the week begins 😒
